An email came through at 3:45 PM, fifteen minutes before it was scheduled to start. Emergency situation with facility scheduling. Rescheduled for tomorrow same time.
Silver should have felt relieved. Instead she just felt suspended. Waiting for the inevitable.
She returned to her dorm room with Maya and Riley, all of them still on edge about Eli's disappearance. Campus police had done a preliminary check but found nothing concerning. His belongings were still in his room. No signs of distress. Just a college student who'd decided to leave campus for a few hours.
Except it had been six hours now. And still no word.
Americus was exactly where they'd left her, surrounded by even more printouts and three laptops running different programs.
"Meeting's postponed," Silver announced, dropping onto her bed.
"I know. I saw the email." Americus didn't look up. "Which gives us more time to prepare your defense."
