Chapter 86 - CHAPTER 86

Worry

Maho's room was still as cozy and cute as ever.

The only difference was that she had a few more dolls now, and on one wall, there was Moon Chang-sik's autograph I had given her.

"Come on in."

"Thanks."

I stepped inside and saw her computer still running mid-stream.

A quick glance showed the chat going wild.

So it's the same everywhere—if the streamer leaves their seat, the viewers riot.

"Do the viewers know I'm here?"

"I told them someone was coming, but I didn't say it was you."

"Well then, let's tell them right away."

No point dragging things out. I dropped my coat and started toward the computer—only to head straight into the bathroom instead.

I had been out and about all day, so washing my hands and feet first felt right.

When I came back and sat down in the streaming chair, Maho gave me a look of disbelief.

"Hey, if you sit there, where am I supposed to sit?"

"I'm the guest here, aren't I?"

"Guest my foot, you're a menace!"

With that, Maho yanked me out of the chair.

Her strength… well, given her build, I guess it's natural. She was living proof of what it meant to be physically strong. She lifted my frail body and plopped me down on the bed.

"Sit there."

"Yes, ma'am…"

In the end, I surrendered to sheer strength and obediently sat on the bed.

"You know I'm turning the mic back on, right?"

"Go ahead, I don't mind."

Her desk and bed were close enough that even from here, my voice would still get picked up.

I watched Maho run the stream for a while. The chat was surprisingly chill.

Everything felt so relaxed—just like Maho herself.

Do viewers always take after the streamer's personality?

No, that can't be right. Otherwise, what would that make me?

Hmm… better save the thought about streamer-viewer dynamics for later. Time to say something.

"So, unni, when are you going to introduce me?"

"Ah—wait, Miro! You can't just start talking like that! I was going to surprise them."

"Drawing it out isn't always a good thing, you know~"

I leaned forward and peeked at the chat.

-ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-What, Miro's here?

-The youngest showed up ㄷㄷ

-She just popped up right away lol

Wow, no profanity in chat?

The vibe here is totally different.

Well, once my viewers start trickling in, that atmosphere won't last long.

"Hello everyone, I'm Miro."

-ㅎㅇㅎㅇ

-Nice to see you

-Whoa, Miro ㄷㄷ

-Are you two close?

"Close? All the Celestial Project members are close."

Maybe not super close, but closer than just normal business partners. Though honestly, we don't see each other much, so there are limits.

-So why are you here?

-Did you go live today?

-Why's this girl here;

Not long after I arrived, some of my own viewers started showing up.

Of course—Miro fans don't only watch my streams. They were probably hanging out in Maho's room, then heard my voice and jumped into chat.

"Well, actually, I dropped by because I had something on my mind. But turns out unni was streaming."

-You? With worries?

-It's gotta be guy problems, right?

Guy problems?

As if I'd ever have those.

Still… the chat being this calm felt strange.

Maybe I should heat things up just a little.

"What if it was about a guy, huh?"

"Miro! Don't!"

-???

-NO WAY

-LMAO

-??

"What if I just blow this whole stream up right now?"

"You—!"

"Mmph! Mmph!"

I didn't get far. Maho rushed over and covered my mouth.

-This girl's crazy;;

-She really doesn't care if it's not her own stream

-She's insane;

Hmm. Seems the viewers weren't buying it either.

Well, who would seriously announce guy problems on stream? Especially a Vtuber.

"Anyway, that's not it. I just came because I've been worrying over work."

-Phew;

-Work? Like streaming stuff?

-Should you even be talking about that on stream?

"Of course I won't go into details. Let's just say it's similar to streaming-related."

Not online streaming, but TV. Still, eventually it'll get replayed on television after the theater run.

-Oh…

-Is something big coming?

-Is it dance-related?

Naturally, they'd assume that. Too bad, not this time.

"Nope, nothing to do with you guys. Don't pry."

-???

-The hell

-Then why bring it up

"Ah, sorry. You asked, so I answered. Didn't expect you all to get this curious."

-Do you want to die?

-Should've kept it to yourself

-Holding my breath until you tell us

Sure enough, my own viewers started appearing in force, and the chat grew rowdier.

Ah, this feeling. Like coming home.

Yes, this is how proper viewers should be.

"Miro! Get over there, now!"

But after seeing the chat turn into chaos, Maho banished me to the corner of the bed.

"Ugh, you're impossible… Now the viewers are upset."

"Ahaha, so… you want to control your viewers?"

"What kind of line is that supposed to be?"

"Like this—watch."

I reached for the VR headset sitting on the shelf beside the bed.

"What's that for?"

"How about some Beat Saber?"

I hadn't exercised yet today anyway. Since I was here, I thought I might as well.

But Maho's face immediately soured.

"Ew, no way."

Didn't expect her to shoot me down so sharply. Guess she really doesn't like it.

"But unni, you're just as out of shape as me."

"I'm not worse than you! At least I jump rope, unlike someone."

Jump rope, huh.

Now that I think of it, I did a bit yesterday… then ditched it for VR.

"Uh… no, I didn't. I'm just going to build stamina through Beat Saber."

"Stop spouting nonsense, put that down, and come here."

"Huh?"

First she kicks me out, now she's calling me back—what does she want?

"The viewers suggested we do an 'Ideal Type World Cup,' so I thought we'd give it a try."

"Oh…."

That's basically one of my main content streams.

I know I can handle this.

"What's the topic?"

"Exercise."

"…Excuse me?"

"Best type of exercise. Let's debate it."

…Exercise?

I mean, fine for me, but doesn't Maho avoid working out too?

What kind of debate could the two of us possibly have on this?

"Apparently, it's funnier when amateurs debate stuff."

"Well, I guess that's true, but…"

"No backtalk. We're doing it."

"Yes, ma'am…"

And so began our Exercise World Cup. …It was surprisingly fun.

Sure, it was mostly just us rambling nonsense, but hey—if the streamer's enjoying herself and the viewers are gnashing their teeth, that's a successful stream.

Anyway, after the broadcast wrapped up—

"So, what's our Soo-hyun's big worry?"

"Well… about that."

It was finally time to unload my troubles.

Sitting side by side on the bed, I explained the situation to Maho: how I'd run into Moon Chang-sik again at the composer's studio and how he'd offered me a minor role in his movie.

"Wait—you met actor Moon Chang-sik again? And he offered you a bit part in his film?"

"Yes. Ah, but the movie itself has to stay secret."

"Oh, I see… wow, that's a kind of problem I never would've imagined."

Well, no wonder. Yesterday even I couldn't have imagined I'd be agonizing over this.

"Hmm… let's see…"

Maho closed her eyes like it was her own dilemma and thought deeply before speaking.

"If it were me… I probably wouldn't take it."

"Oh? And why's that?"

Funny—same problem, but her answer was completely different from Hyunsoo's. Is it their environment? Personality?

"I just really like my life as it is now. And I'm not the type for active stuff."

As I thought—Maho really does resemble the "female Kim Soo-hyun." Satisfied with the present. That in itself is a virtue. Honestly, I'd thought that way myself.

"But that's just me. For you, Soo-hyun, take it as reference only. Actually, I think you'd do really well."

"Me?"

Do well, huh…? Honestly, it wouldn't be that tough. My job already involves clowning around in front of thousands every day, even if it's a little different.

And from the explanation, the role didn't sound all that hard.

"You've already got tons of skills aside from looks. Adding acting wouldn't feel weird at all. And it's just a minor role—what, a couple of shoots and you're done?"

"That's true. I guess I'm making too big a deal out of nothing. It's just a short shoot."

If I didn't like it, I could just say no and walk away.

And yet, here I was, running around asking people for advice. Really… even I could tell I was being spineless.

"If you're that torn, why not go check out the set first?"

"Huh?"

"Just visit the set, see how the actors work. If it makes you think, 'Hey, I want to try this,' then do it. If not, just go home."

"Uh… is that even possible?"

Can someone just stroll onto a film set like that?

"Well, it's not just anyone—it's Moon Chang-sik himself recommending you. Doesn't that give you enough leeway?"

Maho glanced at my face.

"And besides, you think the director's going to get annoyed? Have you ever seen anyone—especially a guy—get annoyed at you?"

Annoyed at me?

When I was a guy, sure, it happened now and then… but as female Kim Soo-hyun? Hmm….

"Oh. No, not really."

"Exactly. So just ask. No harm in asking."

…Maybe I should?

Actually, going to the set to check the atmosphere doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

Assuming they'd let me, of course.

That evening—

Back home, I gave Moon Chang-sik a call.

I figured if he was too busy to pick up, I'd try again tomorrow. Luckily, he answered right away.

[Hello?]

"Ah yes, this is Soo-hyun."

[Ah, Soo-hyun-ssi. Have you given it some thought?]

It felt a little weak to call him after only one day when I said I'd think it over… but better to bring it up sooner.

"I was wondering… since I'd like to think this through carefully, would it be possible for me to visit the set once?"

Even as I said it, I wondered if it sounded off. But unexpectedly, Moon Chang-sik replied calmly.

[Sure, I'll ask the director.]

"Wouldn't it be rude, though? I mean, it's just a minor role. Isn't it presumptuous of me to come watch?"

If I were in his shoes, I'd probably find it absurd. It's not like I'm some A-list star. I'm just a bit player, and here I am asking to "observe."

If anything, people should be begging for the chance.

[It's no problem.]

"Really?"

[Yes. Honestly, if it were someone else, maybe. But since it's you, Soo-hyun, I'm sure the director would be pleased.]

"Oh…"

That was a relief.

Even if I couldn't shake the feeling of being a nuisance, I really wanted to make a careful choice.

[It's truly not a bother, don't worry. Our director is like a master chef.]

"…Excuse me?"

A chef? What's that supposed to mean? Is that some industry slang?

[Nothing strange—just that he never considers time spent evaluating good ingredients a waste.]

Oh… so it was a compliment.

Anyway, with that, it was settled. I'd be visiting the set.
