Evelise frowned, her expression tightening as she shot him a glare.
"Don't ruin it, Sid. Maybe he just left—"
"No. He didn't technically die… not at first."
"What do you mean?"
Sid sighed and leaned against one of the shelves. His voice was softer now.
"His daughter turned. She became a zombie. He couldn't shoot her. Couldn't even lock her up. So… he shot himself instead."
The air in the room felt heavier instantly. Evelise's eyes widened, and her lips parted slightly, trembling as if she wanted to say something but couldn't.
"That's…"
She whispered, her throat tight.
"That's not true."
"It is. I found his body when I first came here."
