Soraya's POV
For a moment, I thought I was dead.
The world felt weightless and silent, my mind floating in a blank haze. Then, slowly, light began to creep in—bright, burning light that made my eyes sting. I blinked against it, one hand rising to shield my face from the sun.
The sound of voices reached me next—muffled, then clearer.
"She's alive!" someone shouted.
I blinked again, and the blur turned into faces—people gathering around, their expressions a mix of shock and curiosity. My pulse raced rapidly. The last thing I remembered was falling, the wind tearing past me, the scream that never finished.
Then I turned my head slightly—and saw them.
The men who'd tried to kill me were at the window of my chamber above, staring down with disbelief. Their faces twisted as they realized I'd survived. They disappeared from sight, and I knew what that meant.
They were coming for me to finish what they started.
