"Hey, stop!"
A shout made the purse snatcher shiver. He turned around and saw a strong black man chasing after him. Seeing this, the thief quickly looked left and right, then ran into an alley.
The black man followed him in.
"Let's go take a look."
Captain America and Winter Soldier exchanged a glance and immediately sprinted after the purse snatcher and the black man.
Before they could reach the alley, they heard several gunshots.
"Damn!"
Captain America muttered, increasing his speed.
At that moment, a man ran out of the alley. Captain America (Steve Rogers) focused his eyes and saw it was the purse snatcher, still holding a pistol.
Seeing someone running towards him, the thug's expression changed in alarm. He tried to raise his gun to shoot, but Captain America (Steve Rogers), with a stern face, threw a small stone, hitting the thug's wrist with precision.
A cry of pain, and the thug's gun fell from his hand.
Captain America (Steve Rogers) ignored him and ran directly into the alley.
The Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes), who was following behind, chopped the thug's neck with a palm strike, causing him to faint. Although the two didn't verbally communicate, their division of labor was very clear, stemming from their many years of cooperation.
After the Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes) called the police, he entered the alley and walked to Captain America (Steve Rogers)'s side, looking down with a grim expression.
He saw that the black, burly man had two gunshot wounds. Crimson blood stained a large area of his clothes. It wasn't good because one of the shots had hit near his heart, but it was unclear if it had hit.
"Hey, buddy, hang in there, hang in there!"
Captain America yelled, lowering his head. He had already seen the black man's pupils beginning to dilate. If he let this continue, the man would fall unconscious, and whether he would wake up afterward was uncertain.
Obviously, the shout worked. The black man's pupils focused slightly.
"I've already called for an ambulance. Can this guy hold on?" Winter Soldier glanced at Captain America, who was holding the gun muzzle down for the man, and asked.
He turned his head and looked. People were passing by the alley outside, but no one came in. They all just stood outside, took a look, and then left, afraid of being caught up in it.
Captain America's expression was grave. He could feel the black, muscular man's heartbeat gradually weakening, and he was afraid the man wouldn't be able to hold on.
"Use the Green Lantern Ring to treat him. Han Yu said the Ring has healing abilities, and it can heal this kind of injury."
Winter Soldier remembered Han Yu's words. They had been learning how to use the Green Lantern Ring with Han Yu these past few days. Han Yu had naturally told them about the Ring's ability to heal, which was one of its functions.
The two had also been systematically trained, so they could handle the emergency.
"I'll do it…" Captain America reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring, putting it on his hand.
He took a few deep breaths, then moved his hands towards the black man, preparing to use Green Lantern energy to begin the treatment. Suddenly, a beam of light descended from the sky and instantly entered the black man's body.
Although it was only for a moment, neither Captain America nor the other person missed it. The object that entered the black man's body was a Green Lantern Ring!
"He was chosen…?"
"I think so…"
The black man's consciousness entered the space of the Green Lantern Ring.
He slowly opened his eyes and found himself in a state of chaos, his body floating in mid-air.
"Where… where am I?"
The black, burly man patted himself down. Not only were there no bullet wounds, but his clothes weren't even torn.
As he spoke, a voice echoed in the chaotic space.
"Sam Wilson, because of your integrity and bravery, we have chosen you. We give you the opportunity to become a member of the Green Lantern Corps and wield the Green Lantern Ring, one of the most powerful forces in the universe. Do you accept?" If Han Yu were present, he would be surprised; this man was none other than Falcon, Captain America's future partner from the original timeline.
"What organization is this? I've never heard of it," Sam hesitated for a moment and said, "What happens if I refuse?"
After all, he had never heard of the Green Lantern Corps, and the ring's claim of being "one of the most powerful forces in the universe" was hard for Sam to believe.
"If you refuse, the ring will depart from your body, taking nothing and leaving nothing behind."
The Green Lantern Ring spoke in a calm tone.
After it said that, Sam discovered two bloody wounds starting to appear on his chest, steadily seeping blood. The pain from the gunshot wounds was continuously transmitted.
The Green Lantern Ring was preparing to detach from his body. The Green Lantern Ring also possessed a certain arrogance. To be chosen was an honor. If the individual accepted, great. If not, the Green Lantern Ring would depart immediately without a second thought.
Han Yu had set it up this way. Even if the person was the most suitable candidate, if they didn't want it, the Green Lantern Ring would leave. It would never cling stubbornly.
Those who received the Green Lantern Ring would, years later, be grateful for their choice today. Joining the Green Lantern Corps was an honor.
"I accept, I accept!"
Sam said hurriedly. The excruciating pain and the rapidly fading sensation of it made it impossible for him to stand, and he knelt in mid-air.
"Very well, now please recite the oath."
The Green Lantern Oath, which Han Yu had recited back then, appeared before Sam's eyes. Lines of English, formed from green energy, floated in the air.
Sam didn't hesitate and immediately recited the oath.
In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil's might
Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!
As the words finished, the lines of text turned into streams of light that vanished into Sam's body. The gunshot wounds on his body began to heal rapidly, visibly, thanks to the Green Lantern Ring's healing.
Sam's thoughts gradually settled, and his eyes slowly closed.
"He's awake, he's awake. Looks like the Ring's healing is very effective..."
"That's definitely got to be useful. If we can't even heal small gunshots on Earth, how are we supposed to recover in space battles?"
When his eyes opened again, Sam was back in the real world. The first thing he saw was two men crouching beside him, staring at him.
"You're... Steve Rogers? But, who are you?"
Sam looked at Captain America; he recognized him, but not the Winter Soldier.
The Winter Soldier shrugged. It was normal that the other person didn't know him; it would be strange if he did. "I'm Bucky. I'll be your comrade. Get up first; don't lie on the ground."
With that, the Winter Soldier extended his hand to Sam, who was lying on the ground.
Though Sam was puzzled, he still grabbed the Winter Soldier's hand and used the leverage to stand up.
"Hello, I'm Sam Wilson."
