I looked behind and couldn't see the building we ran away from. My mind refused to settle as I thought about Sasha, father and Alice.
The trees ahead formed a canopy, shielding me from the direct impact of the sun. Triton frowned as we forged ahead. Sweat was already slicking down his forehead and neck and for some awkward reason, he walked in the path that was away from the trees that formed the canopy, causing him to be directly exposed to the sun.
I paused after a while and panted heavily while trying to catch my breath. My legs hurt from being chained and locked up for up to a day. Going on a long journey that required a lot of strength was the last thing I should have been doing. I was supposed to be resting.
Triton didn't notice I wasn't beside him until a few minutes later.
"Maria, what's the problem?" He asked as he rushed to my side.
Both of my hands were on my knees as I supported myself in a bent position.
