Chapter 201 - The Real Crisis

Although Anton only provided a vague answer, it confirmed many of Coulson's initial conjectures.

With sufficient information, Coulson could finally report the specifics to Nick Fury at headquarters and formulate a response strategy.

After he left, Anton was free to move around the Meteor Crater Base.

Anton approached Mjolnir and tried to pick it up, but naturally, he failed.

According to the basic setting, Mjolnir could only be lifted by those it deemed "worthy," and whoever lifted it would "possess the power of Thor."

Under normal circumstances, those who could be recognized by Mjolnir probably possessed the two characteristics of "pure heart" and "unwavering will."

As for Captain America picking up Mjolnir during the Endgame battle, it seemed natural, but Anton actually thought it was more like Mjolnir, after Thor obtained Stormbreaker, unwilling to be second fiddle, cheated and gave Thor the green light.

Seeing Captain America pick up Mjolnir, Thor shouted, "I knew it all along!"

This emotional drama was truly eye-opening.

Anton let go of his attempt.

Before Thor obtained Stormbreaker, even if someone who met the conditions tried to lift Mjolnir, it wouldn't open itself to them.

However, he vaguely had an idea.

If Wonder Woman, with her similar divine power, covered Mjolnir, would she be recognized by the hammer?

Hmm, he could try it later.

"Anton."

Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.

Turning his head, Anton saw Hawkeye.

"Although this is our first meeting, I'm no stranger to your name, a formal member of the Justice League, and Batman's representative."

Hawkeye stood at the entrance of the Meteor Crater Base, his gaze fixed sharply on Anton.

"What's the matter?"

Anton met Hawkeye's gaze, his tone calm.

"I'm Clint Barton, you can call me Hawkeye."

Hawkeye softened his sharp gaze, and slowly said, "Although I know you know me, I still feel it's necessary to introduce myself."

Anton said, "If you don't have anything, I'd like to be alone for a while."

"And one more thing,"

Hawkeye said, "It's nice to see you here."

He turned and left.

Anton looked at Hawkeye's back, always feeling that this guy's purpose in coming to greet him wasn't so simple.

A show of force?

It didn't seem like it. It was more like a kid who'd lost a fight before, seeing a teammate of his opponent's team come to his turf, and couldn't help but provoke him, but couldn't openly provoke him.

A test?

Anton thought for a moment, and understood Hawkeye's awkward state of mind at the moment.

...

After Hawkeye greeted Anton, he saw Coulson.

"You went to see Anton?"

Coulson had just finished reporting the situation to headquarters. Although he hadn't been following Hawkeye's actions, he could guess why Hawkeye was looking for him.

"What do you think?"

Coulson asked, "Any thoughts?"

"Can't figure him out."

Hawkeye shook his head. "He has a kind of confidence, a very strong confidence! From his answers, I can feel that no matter what happens, he won't be shaken, as if everything is within his expectations."

"They do know a lot, some of which even S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn't touched upon."

Coulson sighed.

As Nick Fury's closest subordinate, even though Fury hadn't shown any unusual reactions recently, Coulson could see the man's anxiety.

Thinking about some of the conversations Fury had with Batman in New York, Coulson felt a chill.

Clearly, there were some real problems within S.H.I.E.L.D.

These problems could potentially tear apart S.H.I.E.L.D., an organization that had been around for decades.

"That's why we value the Justice League."

Coulson said, "If the Justice League only possessed extraordinary power and strong military might, we wouldn't pay them so much attention. The key is that the Justice League has access to intelligence sources beyond S.H.I.E.L.D.'s reach. They seem to know a lot about many real secrets..."

Hawkeye frowned. "Information gap?"

"Exactly. By leveraging the information gap, the Justice League can lead S.H.I.E.L.D. by the nose... That's what makes the Justice League so dangerous."

Coulson nodded, then added, "From Anton's recent actions, it's clear he's a core member of the Justice League. Although we don't expect him to betray the Justice League, his wariness of S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't seem to be as deep as Batman's and the others'. Barton, we need to find a way to get more useful information from Anton. It's important."

"Understood."

Hawkeye nodded.

After thinking for a moment, and recalling Coulson's report, he asked, "What instructions did headquarters give?"

"Headquarters told us to act as the situation dictates, but they will be monitoring us at all times. If a truly critical situation arises, they will provide immediate support."

Coulson said, "Anton promised me that the Justice League will intervene at a critical moment."

"Who will they send to fight?"

Hawkeye was a little excited for a moment, thinking of his "old rivals," and felt it was time to regain some face.

"Wonder Woman."

Coulson's answer made Hawkeye's expression stiffen, and he turned his head in surprise.

"Didn't expect that, did you?"

Coulson shrugged: "I told you long ago, Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, is real."

At this time, Thor was locked in a glass room in the base.

To put it bluntly, it was a rather advanced glass prison, designed to prevent Thor from escaping.

As for Jane Foster and the others who, in the original story, rescued Thor from the S.H.I.E.L.D. base by using the research team as a cover, they were also invited to the base for a chat with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Since they knew the cause and effect, they didn't place much importance on the research team led by Jane Foster.

However, considering that this research team might possess a lot of advanced information, they didn't let them leave for the time being.

The three members of the research team, along with Thor, were locked up in the same place by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Everyone looked at each other through the glass, silent.

"I knew I shouldn't have come to save him."

Daisy looked dejected: "My future is ruined... Won't I be locked up by this mysterious organization until I die of old age? Please, I haven't even gotten married yet!"

"Daisy, please say less."

Jane Foster rolled her eyes: "I think we still have a chance."

"Who are you, exactly?"

Erik stared at Thor: "This mysterious organization hasn't interrogated us yet. They've only confiscated all our research data, backups, and even backups of backups. This shows they seem to know what they're doing."

"I am Thor."

Thor seemed to have gotten used to the current situation, smiling at the three of them: "Believe me, they won't keep us locked up for long."

"What do you mean?"

"They already know who I am. As long as they confirm I'm not a threat, they won't do anything to me. As for you… you're of no use to them. When the time comes, they'll naturally let you leave."

Thor found a way to laugh through his troubles, not feeling too miserable.

After learning of his father's death from Loki, he had learned to accept his exile, preparing to become an ordinary person.

He had been a prince of Asgard, after all. Though a bit rash, he wasn't an idiot.

Thor understood S.H.I.E.L.D.'s thinking and was sure that as long as they confirmed he wasn't a threat, they wouldn't kill him.

Even in exile, he was a prince of Asgard, from another realm, once hailed as "Thor" on Earth, even leaving behind the myth of "Zeus."

With such a background, S.H.I.E.L.D. would definitely be wary and wouldn't do anything rash.

They didn't know that during their conversation, a storm had appeared a few kilometers outside the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.

It was a storm caused by abnormal energy fluctuations, as if someone had opened a spatial portal.

Bang!

Coulson was speaking with Hawkeye when an agent suddenly rushed in, his face anxious. He spoke seriously, "Sir, a large energy surge has been detected. The source is about 3 kilometers northwest of here. It's similar to the scene we observed that night."

"Get armed. Let's go take a look."

Coulson remembered Anton's instructions.

Thor wasn't the threat!

Thor's presence would attract a certain threat!

Did these anomalies indicate that the threat Thor brought was already upon Earth?

Coulson dared not relax for a moment. He quickly led the convoy towards the location with the highest energy readings on the radar map.

But when they arrived at the scene, they only found a circular magic array on the ground.

The magic circle was embedded in the ground, etched with exquisite patterns.

The key thing was that it was deserted.

"Too late?"

Coulson's expression changed slightly: "Go back, go back immediately!"

On the other side.

Four guys in strange outfits walked through the town and arrived at the Meteor Crater Base where Thor was imprisoned.

These were naturally Thor's buddies from Asgard.

The Warriors Three, Volstagg, Hogun, Fandral, and the female warrior Sif.

They descended to Earth, defying Loki, who was temporarily acting as king, in order to bring Thor home.

This action already bordered on "treason." However, they utterly despised Loki's actions, firmly believing that only Thor was fit to take the throne, and they didn't care.

As long as Thor could return to Asgard and ascend the throne, their crimes would naturally vanish.

After arriving at the Meteor Crater Base, Hogun sensed something.

"Thor is inside."

"Mjolnir is also inside."

"Thor hasn't regained his godly powers... Wouldn't it be too dangerous to bring him back to Asgard?"

"We have no way out! Even if he's a mortal, he's the King of Asgard!"

"You're right!"

As the Asgardian Four were about to enter the Meteor Crater Base, they saw a man standing in front of them.

"I don't know who you are, but you're definitely not from Earth."

Hawkeye looked coldly at the strangely dressed group.

Having learned everything from Coulson, he naturally connected the dots and figured out that these guys were from Asgard.

Whoosh!

Hawkeye drew an arrow from behind him, nocked it, and aimed at the four. His palm glowed red, the astonishing heat distorting the air, and even the bow and arrow he was holding emitted a red light, a sign of overflowing energy.

He warned, "I advise you to stop and surrender. You can't just come and go as you please."

"Humans, a friendly reminder."

Volstagg completely disregarded Hawkeye's warning, instead bursting into laughter. "We're not the mortals you think we are. Don't block our path, or you'll regret it."

"Then try me."

Hawkeye remained expressionless, releasing the bowstring. All the thermal energy was channeled into the arrow, which shot out like a red lightning bolt.

Boom!!

Volstagg swung his battle-axe, blocking the arrow. Then, he casually said to his companions, "You go find Thor. I'll play with him for a bit."

Sif and the others nodded, leaping into the air and practically flying, directly entering the Meteor Crater Base.

Like Volstagg, they didn't take Hawkeye's warning seriously at all.

"Are all you people from other worlds so arrogant?"

Hawkeye's expression was cold as he quickly drew an arrow, firing it repeatedly to stop Volstagg's advance, then moved towards the Meteor Crater Base.

He needed to delay these people until Coulson returned.

Besides.

He wasn't actually that worried.

Anton was still in the crater.

Although he had some hostility towards the Justice League, in a way, it also proved their strength.

Anton's confident expression when he faced him earlier was still fresh in his mind.

With Anton's confidence, dealing with a few visitors from another world shouldn't be a problem.

Besides…

"Wonder Woman!"

Hawkeye's mind quickly flashed a thought: "Daughter of Zeus… Since the real visitors from another world have appeared, then, you should have arrived too!"

"Thor!"

Sif found the glass prison.

Before they descended to Earth, they first located Thor's position, ensuring that they could find Thor at the first opportunity in order to achieve their goal.

"Sif!"

Thor was overjoyed. Through the glass, his face lit up: "What brings you here?"

"It's not just me, but also Volstagg, Fandral, and Hogun," Sif said. "We're here to take you back to Asgard."

Bang!

As she spoke, Sif smashed through the special glass in front of her with all her might.

Thor glanced at Jane Foster and the other two in the other rooms, then said to Sif, "Do me a favor and get them out too."

"No problem."

A moment later.

They arrived at the edge of the Meteor Crater Base.

At this moment.

The battle between Volstagg and Hawkeye continued.

Fandral and Hogun, having dealt with the other agents, spotted Sif and Thor. Their expressions brightened, and they excitedly rushed over.

"Thor, it's good to see you."

"You too."

"Guys, although we're happy to see you, you'll be punished for coming here."

Thor looked around worriedly: "I won't go back to Asgard with you."

"Why?"

Sif and the others looked at Thor in surprise.

That sentence didn't sound like it came from the Thor they remembered.

"My father died because of me, and I've decided to become a mortal to make up for my past mistakes," Thor said.

"Thor."

Sif and the others exchanged glances, then solemnly said, "Your father is still alive."

"What?"

Thor was shocked.

At this moment, he thought of Loki's various statements, as well as his own punishment of being stripped of his divine power, and immediately realized that there were many problems in this.

Loki!

Without a doubt, it was his brother who was up to no good.

... Meanwhile.

Anton stood at the edge of the crater, watching the fight between Hawkeye and Volstagg, his expression a little strange.

He knew all about the Asgardian Four's actions, but he didn't take them to heart.

Because he knew the Asgardian Four were not enemies.

The misunderstanding at this moment couldn't even be called chaos; at most, it was a drizzle before the storm.

When the real enemies appeared, that's when real chaos would erupt.

"I didn't expect Hawkeye to have injected the Extremis Virus..."

Anton stared at the battle in front of him, surprised.

The plot had changed quite a bit because of his appearance. Although the general direction hadn't changed, there were many more variables in the details.

He really didn't expect that in the original plot, Hawkeye, Clint Barton, who hadn't undergone any enhancements from beginning to end, had actually been injected with the Extremis Virus.

When firing arrows, Hawkeye's body flashed with red light, injecting the energy within him into the arrows to increase their power. Furthermore, after the arrows were shot, Hawkeye's hand-to-hand combat with Volstagg further demonstrated the changes after Hawkeye was injected with the Extremis Virus.

Anton, who had once transformed into Kong and defeated Killian with ease, was very familiar with the characteristics of the Extremis Virus.

This guy Hawkeye, after being consecutively beaten by Batman and Green Arrow, had reflected and decided to improve himself?

Anton pondered, thinking it was very likely.

Anyway, with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research strength, it was easy to master human enhancement technology like the Extremis Virus, which had already solved the key difficulties.

As for the areas that needed improvement...

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research team was, of course, stronger than Killian's Advanced Technology.

Besides, the intellectual ceiling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark, is still working as a special consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D.!

Solving the side effects of the Extremis Virus is not a problem for Tony.

Sssshhh!!

Black cars screeched to a halt at the edge of the crater.

Coulson quickly got out of his car.

Seeing the situation at the scene, he immediately noticed Hawkeye, who was fighting a mysterious enemy, and his expression changed slightly.

He immediately instructed the agents beside him.

"Go help Hawkeye."

"Understood."

The agents in the car raised their weapons and swarmed towards Hawkeye's position.

Thor and the others were in that direction.

Sif, Fandral, and Hogan, seeing this, picked up their weapons, ready to help Thor break out of the encirclement.

At the same time, Coulson found Anton, who was watching the excitement from the side.

"Where is Wonder Woman?"

He looked serious: "Didn't you say that Wonder Woman would appear at a critical moment?"

"This isn't exactly a critical moment."

Anton shrugged, "You don't think those few are the ultimate problem, do you?"

"What do you mean?"

Coulson turned sharply, staring at the strangely dressed visitors from another world, then turned back to Anton, "You mean they aren't the enemy?"

"Yes, they aren't the enemy."

Anton nodded, "Coulson, tell your people to stand down. Conserve your strength and save ammunition. The real crisis is just beginning."
