Chapter 76 - The Pot Calling the Kettle Black

The next day.

Anton arrived at The Bugle.

Eddie and April had already been waiting for him in his office for almost an hour.

Well, a boss always has the privilege of being late.

"Anton, I called April for you. What did you want to ask her?"

Eddie looked at Anton curiously.

Thinking about the situation Anton had described to him last night, Eddie had a feeling that this incident would be very interesting.

"April, you've been investigating the Foot Clan for a long time. Tell me, why would the Foot Clan want to steal chemicals from Osborn Company?"

Anton asked an old question.

Someone not very smart would think the Foot Clan was just robbing to sell on the black market, because those chemicals and materials were quite valuable.

But someone smart would know the Foot Clan wouldn't risk offending Osborn for so little money.

April hesitated. "Osborn Company has been buying up chemicals recently, and many rare materials are hard to find on the market. Even black market prices have gone up several times, and some things are simply unavailable... The Foot Clan might not be able to find the materials through the black market, so they decided to rob them directly."

"So, the Foot Clan is doing some chemical experiments, experiments related to biological genes... They urgently need these materials?" Anton pressed.

"I don't know. My knowledge of the Foot Clan is limited to their name and the bad things they do." April shook her head. "I know nothing about the Foot Clan's inner workings."

Anton asked again, "Have you heard of a person named Shredder?"

April continued to shake her head, "No."

"Alright."

Anton sighed and looked at Eddie. "Have you found out anything more through your channels?"

"Shredder seems to be a martial arts master who goes by the name of Ninja. He has his own dojo in Brooklyn, New York."

Eddie said, "However, this person rarely shows himself. The only thing for sure is that he has a close relationship with Sacks Company. The person who gave me the information has seen Eric Sacks, the founder of Sacks Company, visit the dojo in Brooklyn many times to see this Ninja master."

April, hearing their conversation, couldn't help but add a word.

"Sacks Company recently signed some cooperation agreements with the New York Police Department. The New York Police Department will use Sacks Company's technology to help the Task Force fight against New York's gangs, especially the Foot Clan, which has been particularly active recently…"

She paused and explained, "This is what was on the Sixth News Channel, this morning's news."

"Sounds good."

Anton reviewed the information he had, combining it with the original plot to construct a plausible narrative.

"Eddie, April, if I told you that Shredder is the one pulling the strings behind the Foot Clan, would you still think the Sacks Company is on the side of good?"

As soon as he said this, Eddie and April's eyes widened, and they looked at him in disbelief.

This morning, the news had reported that the Sacks Company and the New York Police Department's Task Force had formed a partnership to combat crime.

And now, Anton was telling them that the person behind the Foot Clan was called Shredder, and that Shredder was closely connected to Sacks...

Were the Sacks Company crying wolf?

"Eric Sacks grew up in Japan and came to New York with his adoptive father when he was a teenager. After graduating from university, he founded the Sacks Company, which has since become a large corporation spanning multiple fields."

Anton opened his computer and looked up the basic information about Eric Sacks online, comparing it to his memories of the original plot.

He said, "Sacks' adoptive father is Shredder."

"So, they're really crying thief!"

Eddie gasped.

He didn't doubt Anton's conclusion one bit.

Since they'd known each other, Anton had never let him down. Although he sometimes liked to slack off, Eddie knew he could place absolute trust in Anton when things got serious.

"Big news!"

Eddie's eyes brightened. He looked at April beside him, who was in a daze, and suddenly asked in surprise, "April, are you okay?"

"Is Eric Sacks really a bad guy?"

April hesitated. "But I thought he was pretty nice when I was a kid. It doesn't match what you just said at all."

"Your father used to work for Sacks."

Anton asked, "But there was a fire at the research institute, and in the end, your father and all the experimental results were lost in the flames. Afterwards, Sacks closed the institute and sealed off the research, right?"

"You investigated me!"

April was startled.

She was a little annoyed, opening her eyes wide, and looked at Anton, saying, "Anton, what do you mean? I thought we were friends."

"April, don't misunderstand."

Anton shrugged. "In our line of work, we always keep a few cards up our sleeves."

He was investigating my ass; he was just relying on the original plot to reveal April O'Neil's identity.

"Eddie, go help me investigate the Foot Clan."

Anton finished speaking and looked at April, saying, "Friendly reminder, what you told us last night at the bar about new superheroes appearing in New York is true. They are four talking, ninja-dressed Turtles. I think it's related to your father's research, perhaps the results of a previous experiment by the Sacks Company."

"Turtles?"

April was stunned, as if she had thought of something, and became excited: "That's right, it's the Turtles. I saved them the day the lab caught fire! So, my father's research was successful? They didn't fail!"

"Anton, April and I will go check out the Foot Clan. What about you?"

Eddie asked curiously.

"I still have things to do."

Anton gave Eddie a look, remaining calm: "I haven't had time to deal with yesterday's trouble."

"Understood, be careful. We'll handle the Foot Clan."

Eddie nodded, deep in thought.

Then, he and April left Anton's office.

Anton watched them go. Turning back, he searched the Osborn Company's recent news on his computer.

After a moment, he found that the Osborn Company's recently announced experimental plans didn't include anything about biological genes.

So why was the Osborn Company purchasing large quantities of chemicals related to biological gene research? Were they conducting some mysterious experiment behind the scenes that they didn't want to announce? Anton thought of the Osborn Family's genetic disease.

He also thought of how, the night after the Lizard Man incident, Curt Connors had been rescued on the way to prison…

It was almost certain that Norman Osborn was the one who rescued Connors.

He wanted to use Connors' research to cure his family's genetic disease.

Apparently, Norman Osborn succeeded.

At the same time, he also failed!

He may have successfully cured his family's hereditary disease, but in doing so, he developed a split personality, giving birth to a violent and rage-filled second persona—

The Green Goblin!
