"What new information?" Her voice carried a note of wariness. But she didn't step back. Instead, she tilted her chin up slightly. Met my gaze with that familiar challenging glint.
"Nothing important." I moved into her personal space. Watched her reaction closely. She didn't retreat. Her breathing quickened. Almost imperceptible. The pulse at her throat visibly accelerated. "You know, we never did finish our conversation."
Her eyebrow arched. A perfect curve of skepticism. "Which part? The part where you were a manipulative asshole, or the part where I called you on it?"
"The part where you said I was worth the risk."
My hand came up to her face. My thumb gently brushed her lower lip where mine had been less than an hour ago. The skin was still slightly swollen. A physical record of our previous encounter. I noticed her pupils dilate slightly as our eyes locked. The black centers expanding to swallow the violet iris like a spreading inkblot.
