Chapter 485: Training Gains
As Guy unleashed his immense power, a massive whirlwind erupted out of nowhere, gradually shaping itself into a thick, green giant dragon.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!!!
In an instant, the winds howled as if the air itself were being shredded. The storm dragon's terrifying cutting force ripped through the trees around Guy, severing trunks cleanly and blasting wood chips and yellow sand into the air.
"You're still too green to use my moves against me."
"Leaf Dragon God!"
Teacher Chen gathered a massive amount of chakra and unleashed Leaf Dragon God as well.
His not so tall frame burst with frightening power. High speed rotation produced countless wind blades that chewed through everything nearby.
Amid the crashing trees and the screaming hurricane, an even larger greenish blue giant dragon formed.
Watching the two giant dragons tear through the forest, Ebisu and Genma instinctively retreated a few steps.
Even though they had watched Guy grow stronger step by step, seeing a battle scene this exaggerated still made it hard to accept that one of the fighters was their peer.
As time passed, the gap between them did not shrink. It only widened.
Back at the Ninja Academy, the worst case was that they could not beat Guy. Now, even the aftermath of his battle could injure them.
Rumble!!!
The two greenish blue dragons collided. Their sharpness met in a brutal impact, and the ground could not endure it. Explosions rolled outward in a chain, leaving the earth scarred with deep cutting marks.
Guy poured all his strength into the clash, trying to overwhelm Teacher Chen with pure force.
But Teacher Chen carried the title of Konoha's strongest taijutsu user for a reason. Even with Guy giving everything, brute strength alone could not break through.
More than that, Teacher Chen was the creator of Leaf Dragon God. His understanding of the technique far surpassed Guy's.
Even while wielding a massive green dragon, Teacher Chen moved with incredible flexibility, and it left Guy stunned.
Bang!
Teacher Chen seized the perfect moment and struck directly at the core of Guy's Leaf Dragon God. The impact shattered Guy's control. The dragon collapsed, and Guy was launched backward.
Even with Rock Breathing Chakra Mode active and chakra reinforcing his defense, Teacher Chen's swift assault still left him riddled with injuries.
"If Leaf Dragon God isn't enough, then I'll use Teacher Mugetsu's taijutsu." Guy decided to switch to Golden Skyline.
If possible, he wanted to defeat Teacher Chen using the taijutsu Teacher Chen had taught him, as an answer sheet for two years of guidance.
But Guy would not cling to that stubbornly. He preferred to go all out in a fight.
"Golden Skyline!"
Guy pushed his breathing to the extreme, driving his strength to its limit. He funneled everything into his index and middle fingers, then turned into a streak of green light that shot forward.
"This move… yes. It's a taijutsu that surpasses Leaf Dragon God." Teacher Chen's eyes sharpened the moment he saw Guy's motion.
As Guy's instructor, Teacher Chen knew many of the techniques Guy had mastered.
Golden Skyline was Guy's strongest taijutsu, and it was also what Teacher Chen considered Konoha's strongest taijutsu.
Based on his understanding of Konoha's taijutsu, there was no technique stronger than Golden Skyline anywhere in the village.
Golden Skyline carried terrifying power, and with Guy's youth and strength behind it, Teacher Chen's first thought was not how to block it, but how to avoid it.
Decades of experience gave Teacher Chen an answer instantly.
Under his control, the giant dragon, still spewing violent winds, surged toward Guy, as if it intended to meet him head on in a contest of strength.
A spark of excitement flashed through Guy's eyes, and his grin widened.
While charging, Guy used his left hand in a drawing sword motion, guiding his right in a smooth slash. He extended his arm straight, forming a thin line parallel to the ground, then snapped his fingers toward the green giant dragon in front of him.
But at the critical moment, Teacher Chen changed his move.
The green giant dragon vanished. The powerful winds around Teacher Chen burst outward, creating a slight deviation in Guy's trajectory.
In the same breath, Teacher Chen dropped low and rolled sharply to his left.
Teacher Chen had studied Golden Skyline. The technique was terrifying, but it did not have the wide attack range of Leaf Dragon God.
So he first created the illusion of a head on collision to lure Guy in, then used the remaining force of Leaf Dragon God to disrupt his approach, and finally dodged at the last instant.
Guy's expression flickered with surprise as his strike missed. He had not expected Teacher Chen to evade instead of colliding head on.
Teacher Chen gave him no time to adjust.
A whirlwind kick followed immediately, sending Guy stumbling back several meters.
Then Teacher Chen pressed forward, fists snapping out in a relentless barrage. The punches fell like a torrential storm, and even Guy struggled to withstand them.
Guy was forced from offense into defense, and he no longer had the strength to counterattack.
He had opened the Four Gates, entered Rock Breathing Chakra Mode, and unleashed top level taijutsu like Leaf Dragon God and Golden Skyline. His stamina and chakra were nearly drained dry.
"Teacher Chen wins," Ebisu finally announced.
"Guy is strong, but it's still extremely hard to beat Teacher Chen," Genma sighed.
To be honest, Genma could barely understand a fight like this anymore. He could only judge the gap by the result.
"Your foundations are very solid," Teacher Chen said as he helped Guy up, "but you still need to accumulate more combat experience and practice more techniques."
By the standards of an ordinary eleven year old shinobi, Guy's combat experience and taijutsu variety were already exceptional. They were not weaknesses at all.
But compared to Guy's physique and chakra, his experience and technique accumulation still lagged far behind.
"Today, I'll run another five hundred laps around Konoha!" Guy nodded without complaint and immediately chose to add extra training.
Guy never made excuses. If he lost, he lost. What mattered was getting stronger and winning next time.
…
[Name: Might Guy]
[Life Mission: Walk the Path of the Strongest Taijutsu]
[Main Objective: Become a top tier ninja world expert in taijutsu, both in strength and reputation, letting all shinobi know that one can become strong even without proficiency in ninjutsu]
[Mission Progress: 29.9%]
While routinely checking his disciples' life mission progress, Mugetsu noticed that Guy's mission was close to reaching a settlement node. He was only 0.1% away from unlocking the progress reward.
Mugetsu closed the panel and headed to the training ground to begin another day of ANBU instruction.
Being short by 0.1% did not require missions for experience. Guy would reach it naturally after training on his own for a while.
For the new week, Mugetsu slightly adjusted the curriculum. Monday and Thursday became days for practicing nature transformation and ninjutsu, while the other days remained focused on practicing the Darkness Breathing Technique.
Mugetsu brought out the Five Great Nature techniques he had developed for instruction.
However, he did not start with B rank ninjutsu. Instead, he first taught C rank versions of the Five Great Nature ninjutsu.
In Konoha's ninjutsu ranking, B rank already counted as high level. Learning it was not easy.
To accommodate most people, Mugetsu began with C rank techniques, so that later, learning the upgraded B rank versions would be far faster.
[Completed one intermediate lecture]
[Rating: S]
[Reward: Chakra Nature Transformation understanding increased, Lightning Release Chakra Nature Transformation +25, Earth Release Chakra Nature Transformation +24, Water Release Chakra Nature Transformation +15, Fire Release Chakra Nature Transformation +9, Great Fireball Technique +35…]
After the day's lecture ended, the panel immediately issued rewards.
Mugetsu opened his attribute panel and glanced through it. Ice Release and Wood Release had each increased by more than twenty points in proficiency.
[Skills: Ice Release (Proficient: 1740/3000) Wood Release (Proficient: 1042/3000)]
Because he frequently used Ice Release on the Hidden Mist battlefield, its proficiency had climbed rapidly. Wood Release was far slower. Aside from the sharp jump to one thousand proficiency from using nature transformation experience scrolls, it had only risen by forty two points afterward.
Mugetsu made a quick estimate. With lecture rewards and the final promotion rewards at the end of training, raising both Ice Release and Wood Release to the master level should not be a problem, even if the mastery proficiency would not be particularly high.
After finishing work, Mugetsu went to Tsunade's house to cook.
"Teacher Mugetsu, Lady Tsunade, I've successfully been promoted to jonin!" Rin hurried in, smiling brightly as she shared the news.
Rin was deeply grateful to Mugetsu and Tsunade. Without their combined help during her special training, it would have been hard for her to achieve promotion so quickly.
"That's great." Tsunade nodded, then turned to Shizune. "You should learn from her too. Rin isn't your peer, is she? I'm not asking for much. Just become a jonin before the end of this year."
Shizune was surprised that Tsunade actually cared about her ninja rank. For a moment, she felt warm, realizing how much Tsunade cared about her.
Shizune's chest tightened with resolve. Even if her strength was not outstanding, she would work hard and become a jonin as soon as possible.
"The mission fees a jonin can earn are nothing like a chunin's," Tsunade added. "I haven't gambled to my heart's content in a long time."
The warmth in Shizune's heart instantly froze. She stared at Tsunade, speechless.
"Rin, this is your jonin gift." Mugetsu found a chance to slip away, then returned with a Pokémon Egg and placed it into Rin's hands.
This final Pokémon Egg was the one extracted from Obito's jonin reward.
Rin carefully accepted the large egg, thanking Mugetsu with a sincere, grateful expression.
She had worked this hard for two reasons. One was to become stronger and play a greater role in battle.
The other was that she had been looking forward to her jonin gift.
After all, who could refuse a cute nin beast?
Katsuyu was useful, but calling it cute was a bit of a stretch.
