Marunouchi Super-High Tower. Unlike the 'amicable' situation on Schwarzer's end, this place was a hellscape of flesh and blood smeared across the walls.
David was constantly moving through the building, buying time, trying to find a way to escape.
The Crime Ninja had slaughtered everyone in the entire building, even having the leisure to peel off their faces.
In the midst of his constant flight, David saw large amounts of blood and minced flesh. He quickly pieced together their cause of death: they had been obliterated by the high-speed impact of the Crime Ninja.
This was how unsolvable a ninja was to an ordinary person. David felt a sense of powerlessness, and also anger at the Crime Ninja's utter disregard for life.
Unfortunately, this wasn't the previous Jujutsu Kaisen world. In his extreme rage, David raged for a moment, but then his Sandevistan couldn't hold out and shut down.
"Is that all you've got? I'm just getting warmed up, you know."
"Oh right, I forgot to tell you. My mission target is actually the girl in your arms."
The Crime Ninja quickly caught up to David, whose Sandevistan was no longer active. Although he was panting slightly, the twin blades in his hands and his movements all indicated his combat strength was unaffected.
He couldn't escape. David finally realized this.
Of course, it wasn't just because the Sandevistan couldn't be active for long, but also because the opponent's target was Lucy!
A sense of anger and crisis more intense than ever before washed over him. He dared not imagine what would happen if Lucy were caught by such a demon.
"Why is Lucy the target?"
"I don't know either. But that doesn't matter to you, does it? I'm about tired of playing around. Time to send you off this mortal coil."
The Crime Ninja spoke casually, twin blades in hand. He didn't think David posed any threat to him.
Schwarzer was tied up, and by numerous ninjas at that. V was still on her way. David checked her location; she wasn't far, but it would still take some time.
This meant he could only rely on himself right now. He had to kill the opponent, or at least hold out until V arrived. As long as they could get into her AV, it would be difficult for the enemy to catch them.
David silently gripped the handle of the pistol at his waist, and then—activated his Sandevistan again!
A multitude of afterimages appeared as David moved, an effect of the Sandevistan that also signified he had pushed his speed to the absolute limit.
The burning flames froze, and drops of water from a broken pipe hung suspended in mid-air. David felt as if he had obtained incomparable speed.
He chose to take the offensive, his body trailing afterimages as he tried to close in on the Crime Ninja. However, he soon discovered that even at this speed, his opponent was gradually turning his head, his gaze locked firmly onto him.
But he was a genin, after all, and not a ninja specialized in speed. His body couldn't keep up.
David seized the moment and raised his gun. He could feel the strain on his body; using the Sandevistan like this was clearly too much.
Blood gushed from his nostrils like a fountain as David fired at the Crime Ninja.
"BANG—"
"IIYAA!"
Two sounds rang out almost simultaneously: one was the gunshot, the other was the Crime Ninja's cry.
With the power of his mighty Karate, combined with the twin blades in his hands, he had actually caught the bullet—no, he had actually tracked the muzzle of David's gun even with the Sandevistan active!
The bullet struck his twin blades. It was from David's specially modified, large-caliber kinetic pistol, capable of blasting through walls. The impact sent a wave of numbness through his hands.
The deflected bullet hit his arm, leaving a massive, penetrating wound.
"GWAAH—" The sound of metal hitting the ground rang out. One of his daggers had fallen, leaving only his left hand intact.
"How is this possible? To still have this much speed... And that weapon, why does it have so much power?"
The Crime Ninja had not anticipated this result at all. Ninjas, in the face of firearms, are still just carbon-based lifeforms, let alone a mere genin.
This is why ninjas are suppressed by the megacorps of the cyberpunk world and cannot rule the entire globe.
Their techniques are very powerful, and their physical abilities far exceed those of ordinary people, reaching an inhuman level. But ninjas still have limits, which is why a frontal assault is an unwise choice.
This would be the time to press the advantage... David tried to activate the Sandevistan again, but he couldn't control it.
"GACK—" A large amount of blood erupted from his mouth, staining a patch of the floor red. The terrifying blood loss left his body considerably weakened.
Seeing his current state, the Crime Ninja's anxieties were put to rest. He had thought something unexpected was happening, but it turned out to be nothing more than his opponent's last-ditch effort.
"That was a close one. You should have aimed for my head. I might not have been able to block it, you know."
"But as a reward, I'll peel your face off in one piece. You should be honored."
He was nothing but a gloating scoundrel! The Crime Ninja was, in reality, a Sanshita Ninja!
The dagger plunged down towards David. At that moment, however, he suddenly raised his hand and fired. Within seven paces, the gun is both fast and accurate.
Unfortunately, without the boost from the Sandevistan, his movements were completely visible to the Crime Ninja, who dodged with ease!
Staring at the cold glint of the dagger in his opponent's hand, David's mind went blank. Was he going to die?
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lucy, her face filled with worry, on the verge of tears. If he died, what would happen to Lucy if she were captured by this man?
David's life began to flash before his eyes, but the images that appeared were from the training chip, of the opponents he had challenged and defeated countless times over the past month....
"IIYAA—!" No Sandevistan, no gun, no protection from V or Schwarzer... But! I still have my Karate!
"GWAAH—!" The dagger flew from his hand as the hideous Crime Ninja took a heavy punch to the face, his entire visage twisting and caving in.
This punch contained the full force of David's body, and his Karate!
"How... how is this possible... you..." The Crime Ninja felt it. The Karate emanating from David faintly overwhelmed his own—a Karate that had truly reached the level of a ninja!
That power made his body completely uncontrollable. It was as if the punch had damaged the motor control center of his brain; he swayed, unable to stand straight.
"Recite your death haiku, Crime Ninja-san."
"Impossible! How can I die at the hands of an insect?!" he babbled in a panic, still calling him an insect!
David picked up the fallen dagger. The familiar feel of throwing a shuriken guided his hand, making the throw incredibly precise as the entire blade sank into the Crime Ninja's skull.
"SAYONARA—"
[EXPLOSION AND SCATTERING]
David, a mere mortal, had killed a ninja. Such a feat, worthy of being recorded in the annals of history, was at this moment witnessed by Lucy alone. A new legend of Night City was being born.
