At first I thought it was a dream, you know—waking up in the body of a fictional character and having all their powers? But after five years in this body, I can't call it a dream anymore. Think of the longest dream imaginable.
I soon had to accept that I was in the world of The Vampire Diaries / The Originals. I was an Original Vampire, a thousand years old—or rather, this body belonged to a thousand-year-old Original. I was still sealed away, but that didn't matter much to me. Though I will say, the series lied about how fast vampires are—even Klaus's speed.
I tested my speed the moment I got here, and I remember it like it was yesterday: time stopped. Everything. Birds frozen mid-flight, the wind itself standing still.
So I decided to run with everything I had. That's when I realized—my clothes burned away instantly.
I stood still, and as time remained frozen, the hungrier I grew; my body felt weaker, and time seemed to start moving again, only creeping forward with every passing minute.
I don't think I have the power to stop time. Quite the opposite—I think I'm moving so fast that my reactions happen in microseconds, not seconds.
I looked at my hands and touched a bird suspended in the air. At the time, it seemed like a good idea. But the moment I touched it, it burst apart into blood that drifted slowly, as if it had been hit by a truck.
That's when I realized: vampires weren't beings devoid of magic. They used magic—purely physical and psychic magic.
Over that time, I lived the life of a vampire. I never killed anyone, never even tried. Honestly, I just wanted to live a decent life. Which brings me to today.
Sitting at a bar, I saw a redhead crying while drinking something that smelled terrible just from standing near it.
I stood calmly and walked over to her, not thinking much before sitting down beside her.
"Hey, isn't that a little strong for someone so beautiful?" I smiled at her and set a better drink down on the table. "How about this one? It's nicer."
"And what if I want to get wasted?" She looked at me with irritated eyes. "That little thing won't do a thing."
I smiled, meeting her gaze—fire, her eyes burned with such intensity.
"Get wasted? In a place like this?" I leaned toward her and glanced around. "All this place has are people waiting for you to get weak so they can take advantage."
"And you're one of them?" She made a face and rolled her eyes. "Of course you are… but think—I can take care of myself."
I saw movement and noticed a wand in her hand. Great, I thought. As if this world didn't have enough—now it's Harry Potter too.
"A witch, huh?" I murmured, tilting my head. My hand moved faster than she could react; I took the wand from her grasp. "But without this, things get tricky."
"Hey—give it back!" She was close to tears. "Are you a dark wizard? Are you going to hand me over to Voldemort? Whatever… I don't have much left to lose anyway."
Tears welled in her eyes. I lifted my hands to wipe them away, and she flinched.
"Relax—I have no interest in hurting you." I replied with a charming smile. "And Voldemort? Seriously? Sounds like something you'd find on a bad menu."
She laughed. For a moment, her face shifted—red from crying and fear, now flushed with embarrassment and something warmer.
"So… how about we leave before those idiots decide to make their move?" I nodded toward a group of men in black cloaks approaching.
"Death Eaters," she whispered, snatching her wand back and stepping in front of me. "Stay behind me."
Is she… protecting me?
"Lily Potter—surrender, and we'll give you a quick death!" The leader shouted, aiming his wand at her.
"So your name's Lily?" I said, looking at her. "Beautiful name."
"Now is not the time for jokes!" She raised her wand. "I'll surrender—just let him go."
"Agreed. Drop your wand," the leader said. I watched him closely.
"He's lying," I told her. "He'll probably torture you and have his fun until you break."
"Silence, Mudblood!" he snarled.
"Did he just be racist to me?" I asked her, genuinely confused.
"Yes… look, I'm so sorry." She looked at him. "I'll surrender—do whatever you want with me. He has nothing to do with this."
She stepped forward toward them. Of course he wasn't going to let me go—he raised his wand.
"Avada Kedavra!" A bolt of green light shot toward me.
"NOOO!" Lily screamed.
I wanted to save her, but I also wanted to see what death magic would do to me. I had nothing left to lose anyway.
I watched the beam creep toward me, slow as molasses, and it touched my chest.
Then—boom. As if by magic, the spell rebounded and flew straight back, killing him instantly.
"Well… I wasn't expecting that," I muttered, surprised. I grabbed my drink and hurled it at the others while they stood frozen in shock.
"NOW!" I shouted. She cast a spell, disarming them all.
The fight ended, but there was so much to explain.
"You're a vampire," she said, taking a step back.
"Ooh—how did you know?" I asked, genuinely curious what wizards knew about my kind.
"Not much… but you're highly resistant to magic. The only beings immune to the Killing Curse." She looked at me, fascinated. "I thought it just didn't affect you—never imagined it would bounce back like that."
"So… how about we go somewhere else?" I held out my hand.
"I'd like that. But you're telling me everything," Lily smiled, taking my hand.
Some time later…
Lily moaned, her back arching against my chest as I held her hips, guiding her movements in the bath.
"So… your husband cheated with your best friend?" I murmured against her skin. "Caught them in your bed and ran?"
"Yes… I hate him!" She gasped, head falling back. "She's a Death Eater… how dare he?"
"Forget him, love." I cupped her face and kissed her deeply. "You're mine now."
We stayed together for three days, barely leaving the room, until Lily decided she had to rejoin the war effort. The headmaster convinced her to return to her husband.
I didn't like it—not one bit—but I let her go. And vanished.
One year later…
I was sitting in the living room of my new mansion when an owl landed at my window. Tied to its leg was a letter. I opened it and read:
Dear Nik,
It took me so long to find the courage to write this… but you need to know. That night we spent together—shortly after, I found out I was pregnant. I thought it was my husband's. But Nik… they're yours.
I ran a blood test without him knowing. They aren't his. I've only been with you. I'm not… I'm not unfaithful. I know you might hate that I went back to him. But… I think my husband and I were found by the Dark Lord. If you can… please take care of our children.
What in the world am I reading? I'm not fertile. Not in the show—Hope existed only because her mother was a special wolf, and that version of me was already a hybrid.
Still, I went to the address she'd written. I saw the house glowing—warded. I tried to rush in and was thrown back. Damned vampire restriction.
Then the barrier fell.
No… Lily…
Time stopped. My clothes tore away. My body burned. I didn't even have to touch the wizards frozen in place—they disintegrated as I passed. When I reached the bedroom, I saw it: a green bolt striking a man, turning him to dust.
In the crib were two children—a boy and a girl—both with dark hair. The boy had a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead.
Damn it… they really are mine.
I looked down. Lily lay on the floor. You idiot…
I pressed my blood to her lips. Nothing. She was gone.
I pulled myself together and looked at them. I had to get them somewhere safe. No wizards trailing behind me.
I waited outside as Lily's allies arrived. I followed them to where they left the children—the very place Lily had always said she hated.
I took them. And before I left, I got Elijah's number.
"Hello, brother."
"Klaus? Where are you? Where are the others?"
"Try looking at sea. Good place for traitors."
"You didn't… Klaus, where are they?"
"As I said—look in the ocean." I hung up.
A pang of guilt hit me—maybe the last trace of the original Klaus in this body. But it was necessary. Elijah close to my children would only bring trouble. And Klaus's enemies would find them fast.
