Chapter 181: Discussion and Decision
Flamme hurried forward to greet him. "Teacher Kurtz, you're back. Where did you go just now?"
Flamme naturally noticed Kurtz's sudden departure, as they were the closest at the time.
"I went to find the Demon Race's true commander."
"Did you find him?"
Serie slowly descended, the magical radiance around her completely retracted, and the expression on her face returned to its calm state, as if the mage who had been slaughtering on the battlefield just now wasn't her.
"No, he ran too fast. It was Schlacht."
Kurtz was concise, his gaze sweeping across the battlefield. The elf's actions were truly ruthless. The entire battlefield was covered in cratered marks.
Upon hearing the name "Schlacht," Serie's eyes narrowed slightly, then a cold look of disgust flashed through them.
She had a deep impression of the demon she had fought.
In her long life, the demons who could make her take them even slightly seriously were few and far between. The one from two hundred years ago who could briefly contend with her, and didn't even reveal his true name, was definitely one of them.
In fact, when Kurtz asked for the other party's name, Schlacht's unwillingness to reveal it made her feel that there must be something fishy about it.
Although Kurtz later confirmed the other party's name as "Schlacht" through some unknown method, Serie was too lazy to delve deeper or verify it, simply defaulting to that address.
"That magical aura just now was his, right? It was very far away, so he must have used some method."
Serie also noticed Schlacht's prying.
Because she sensed the distance was too great, Serie didn't react immediately like Kurtz, but instead planned to deal with the demons on the battlefield first before taking action.
Then Kurtz beat her to it.
"It's a bit like a modified detection spell. I sensed a familiar magical formula in it," Kurtz added. "Also, it seems he could see the scene. He must have recognized me and directly tore through space to escape."
"No wonder you couldn't catch him." Serie's lips curved into a sarcastic arc. "Heh, it seems you left a deep impression on him two hundred years ago."
To make a Greater Demon scared to this extent, perhaps only this man in the world could do it.
"So what now? If he hides for another two hundred years, things will get troublesome."
"It's fine, he can't hide this time."
Kurtz turned to Serie, his tone becoming serious. "Schlacht launched an attack of this scale at all costs, even personally commanding it. I am now even more certain that he's delaying us. Coupled with the dark fluctuation I sensed earlier, I vaguely feel that his true objective is very likely related to El Country."
Kurtz did not reveal all of his conjectures, as he was not sure if his guesses were correct. He needed more information to confirm.
"El Country?" Serie frowned slightly.
"Yes," Kurtz affirmed. "Regardless of whether my conjecture is correct, we must go to El Country immediately. Even if I'm wrong, it doesn't matter; it's a good opportunity to check the situation there."
That Holy Sword, which condensed a millennium of human faith, was an important means he had left behind. Checking it was perfectly fine, especially with the current frequent demon activities.
"Okay." Serie agreed to Kurtz's judgment with hardly any hesitation.
After all, if not for today's demon attack, they were already planning to set off for El Country.
"So, how do we get there? If the situation is too urgent, flying directly would be too slow."
She pondered for a moment, then looked at Kurtz. "I remember that in El Country, Norn secretly constructed a large teleportation array anchor point back then. Although it's ancient, as long as the core runes haven't been destroyed, connecting to it should allow us to teleport directly to the El Country Royal City."
"Is that so? Why haven't you told me about it?" Kurtz was a little surprised. He had never heard Serie mention this before.
"Because it was never needed! Norn's original intention was that if one day El Country encountered a disaster that even the Holy Sword couldn't resolve, they could use this teleportation array to help their citizens escape.
But he didn't expect that after he founded the country, El Country had a smooth journey. Let alone a national destruction crisis, they rarely even experienced war, so the teleportation array was always put aside."
"So that's how it is." Kurtz's brows furrowed after hearing Serie's explanation.
"But activating such a cross-continental teleportation array requires an enormous amount of magical power. Even if you and I combine our strength, we can't fill it. Even if we overdraw our magic to activate it forcibly, we don't know what might be waiting for us at the end of the teleportation."
Draining their magic to activate the teleportation array was too risky.
If they encountered a strong enemy immediately after teleporting, he and Serie would be very passive.
Serie's gaze did not leave Kurtz, but instead carried a hint of "did you forget something?" as it slowly moved downwards, finally settling on the Auge hanging at his waist.
More precisely, it fell on Athos's seemingly unremarkable scabbard.
"Did you forget something?" Serie's lips curved, her tone teasing. "What you have hanging at your waist isn't it a mobile source of magic?"
Kurtz instantly understood Serie's meaning and, subconsciously, reached for the scabbard at his waist.
The source of magic Serie mentioned was precisely the Holy Relic Stone Slab, containing immense magical power, that they had found in the Dwarf Ruins years ago.
Over the years, Kurtz had secretly found the continent's top dwarf forging masters, spending a huge price and a long time to forge that indestructible stone slab and the magic contained within it, ultimately making it the core base of Auge's scabbard.
At this moment, this Holy Relic Stone Slab truly became Auge's scabbard.
"Use the magic in the scabbard to power the teleportation array?" Kurtz's voice carried a hint of hesitation.
He had always regarded the Holy Relic magic in the scabbard as a trump card for critical moments, to be used when needed, especially when he had to unleash Athos's full power without reservation.
"Otherwise?" Serie raised an eyebrow. "Do you still expect the dwarves to provide you with enough magic? Or do you want to fly slowly, giving Schlacht's subordinates enough time to carry out their conspiracy in El Country?"
Kurtz fell into a brief deliberation.
Using the magic within the scabbard meant expending one of his important trump cards.
But Serie was right. Time waits for no one.
Schlacht went to such great lengths; if his conjecture was true, he had to get to El Country as quickly as possible.
"I understand." Kurtz finally made a decision. "However, Athos's magic cannot be completely used up. The magic in the scabbard is too pure; the teleportation array doesn't need that much, and excessive infusion might damage the array foundation."
He looked at Serie and stated his plan. "I will use a portion of the magic stored in the scabbard as the core activation energy. We will partially supplement the remaining deficit, and then we will ask Baling to have the magic users hired by White Fortress make up the rest."
"This way, we can ensure the teleportation array activates quickly while maximizing the conservation of our own magic, avoiding weakness after teleportation."
This plan was both efficient and relatively stable.
Serie nodded. "Okay. Let's do that."
The two quickly reached a consensus and prepared to act separately.
