Chapter 48 - Snows wrath (2)

Embedding his spear within it, which was only possible thanks to the sheer momentum with which he was thrown and the increased gravity around him.

"You good, Az?!" Olivia asked, seeing him get thrown into the snow spike.

"Yeah, am fine. You see what hit me? Am pretty sure the thing didn't even move," he replied, pulling himself up onto the pillar properly.

"Yeah, the thing has a tail. Talk about cheating, am I right?"

"You know I have two tails, righ…"

Before the two could finish their impromptu conversation they were rudely interrupted as the beast finally moved, opening its mouth again but this time instead of releasing a snowy blast it instead released a roar that shook the very air in the floor.

ROOOOARRRR!!!

And this sound wasn't released by itself. No, it was accompanied by the pillar Azrael was standing on sinking into the ground.

Only for another to shoot up right after—just, this one was smaller, sharper, aiming right for his heart.

But Azrael managed to move right before it rose up. After all, he would never stay in the same place his foothold just disappeared from.

But that wasn't the only spike to rise. No, more rose following his path and more rose blocking his path.

The only way he could get past them was to not evade them in the first place.

He would dodge them, crush them, jump over them and jump onto them.

And he wasn't the only one facing this problem as Olivia's path was blocked as well.

But unlike Azrael, who had to try and use them to evade them, Olivia was different.

She cut her way through, covering her sword in a thin fire to cut right through the snow spikes as soon as they rose.

But the beast didn't stay still. Rather, it began to run towards them, shaking the floor with each step.

While running it opened its horrid mouth again to release one more snow blast of death towards the creatures who had invaded its home, its sanctuary.

MMMMMMM!!!!

BOOOOOM!!!

But this blast didn't find its way to them either. How could it when neither was still? But the ice was growing towards their path, which only resulted in them moving even faster, jumping from spike to spike as they were rising.

Eventually, whether it had been the beast making its way towards them or the two crazy bastards making their way to the creature that would almost certainly cause their death—the three enemies came face to face.

With Azrael jumping one more time towards the colossal beast, seemingly learning nothing from his last attempt.

Seemingly.

Because as its tail was breaking its way through the air towards him, this time he didn't allow himself to be hit. No, this time he latched himself onto the tail as it swung through the air.

But no matter how much the tail cut through the air, his grip didn't relent for even a second. Instead of being thrown off, he was making his way up the thing's tail.

Olivia wasn't idle either. Seeing that she couldn't damage the thing from down there, she too decided to climb the creature, although her method was wildly different.

As instead of jumping into the air and hoping to latch onto the swinging limb, she decided to instead climb up onto the beast's back feet as it was thrashing around in the mist and snow.

It suddenly turned its attention to its own tail, raising it to be directly in front of its open, waiting mouth.

MMMMMMMM!!!

Where another arctic blast was quickly building up, and where Azrael was still climbing.

Seeing the blast building up, he finally let go, pushing himself off and out of the blast's radius just in time.

BOOOOOOM!!!!

The beast released the blast just as Azrael managed to let go, barely missing him by an inch.

Luckily he was able to survive, but the same couldn't be said for the beast's own tail. No, the blast overtook its tail, embedding it within a cage of solid, infectious ice.

While barreling through the air Azrael managed to gain his balance, landing on another one of those snow spikes before quickly jumping off before this one turned against him too.

He jumped off the giant spike, before rolling his way into the snowy floor and breaking out into a full sprint as soon as he landed safely.

Well, relatively safely. As when his body landed onto the soft snow-covered floor—which looked to be completely flat—the snow suddenly changed, moving and shifting quickly, forming a thick snow spike where he landed, which impaled the left side of his back as he rolled to safety before breaking out into a full sprint.

Completely shrugging off the back injury, he attempted to catch back up with his equally crazy partner in crime, Olivia, who was still busy climbing up the beast's back legs in an attempt to see if there were any weak spots on the creature's back.

Or what it appeared to call a head, as when looking from the ground up they could see no eyes, no ears, or even the places they would usually be.

No, on this beast there were no such things. Only its colossal snowy body and the massive icy mass that made up its head.

Olivia finally reached the creature's back as it was completely distracted by trying to kill the annoying pest down below, which had made it damage its very own tail.

But the pest was a fast one, as every blast was met with a swift dodge and every snow spike was almost completely ignored, as if they weren't even a threat.

Sensing this, the beast got even angrier as it suddenly, completely stopped moving.

And one might think this was a good thing, but Azrael had a completely different view. If this thing, whose sole purpose was to stop them by killing them, stopped trying for even a second, it meant that it had something else in mind.

Something that he was sure he wasn't gonna like. No, not one bit.

But even so, just because it was clearly planning something didn't mean he would stop his charge towards the beast. No.

He would just deal with whatever it threw at him as it was throwing it. Yeah, that would work. Or so he told himself.

Standing on top of the now-stagnant creature, Olivia dragged her pitch-black sword, which she covered in a thin layer of fire, along the creature's back, but this did absolutely nothing, not even alerting the creature that someone was on its back.

Its back didn't budge. She couldn't cut it or burn it, only managing to singe its snow-white fur.

Just as Azrael was closing in, getting ready to join Olivia on the beast's back, it looked to regrettably wake up from its stasis state. And with this sudden awakening came new dangers.
