Chapter 224 - Love Is Selfish

After the Land of Fire's mediation agreement was signed, the Ninja World fell into a rare state of peace.

Kumogakure, Iwagakure, and Sunagakure, the three great ninja villages, remained inactive, and the five princes of the Land of Fire honored their agreement, each guarding their territory and no longer engaging in war.

The Land of Water, under the guise of "assisting in maintaining order," quietly infiltrated its influence into every corner of the Land of Fire.

Inside the deliberation hall of the Land of Water's royal palace, sunlight streamed through the carved window frames, falling upon the long table covered with scrolls.

Shun sat in the main seat, a brush held between his fingers, a thick pile of documents before him. But after only a few pages, he irritably threw the brush onto the table, his brows tightly furrowed.

The Tailed Beast Chakra within him was once again restless. Even with the Nature Cursed Seal suppressing it, it often plunged him into inexplicable excitement and irritability.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm it with Chakra, but only felt the restlessness grow stronger.

Just then, steady footsteps echoed from outside the hall.

Yūgao, dressed in a dark blue secretary's uniform, holding a black folder, her long hair neatly tied into a bun, walked steadily into the hall.

She smiled and gently said, "Your Excellency, this is the Land of Fire immigration statistics report you requested, and also the agenda for this afternoon's meeting with the Land of Water elders."

As Shun's exclusive secretary, Yūgao always maintained a professional distance. She was familiar with his work habits, clear about his schedule, and could even anticipate his needs in advance, yet she never dared to overstep her bounds.

But the moment he saw her, the irritation in Shun's heart suddenly found an outlet.

He stood up and quickly walked forward, and before Yūgao could hand over the documents, he pulled her, person and folder, into his arms.

The folder clattered to the floor, and the papers inside scattered, but no one paid any attention.

Yūgao stiffened, wanting to struggle, but her professional demeanor instinctively kept her restrained, though her voice carried an unconcealable panic. "Your Excellency... please don't do this."

Her cheeks instantly flushed, and her hands pressed against his chest, trying to maintain distance, but Shun's arms locked around her like iron clamps, rendering her immobile.

Shun lowered his head, his nose touching the top of her hair. His breathing was filled with her faint body scent, which unexpectedly calmed his restless emotions slightly.

He said in an undeniable voice, "Yūgao, when it's just the two of us, you can call me Shun. Don't you understand my feelings yet?"

Yūgao's head drooped even lower, her long eyelashes concealing the panic and longing in her eyes.

Of course, she understood his feelings. In truth, she also liked him, admired his courage in bringing peace to the Ninja World, and coveted the tenderness he occasionally showed.

She was a very traditional person, and facing such a domineering closeness, she was somewhat at a loss.

"I... I am just your secretary, we cannot..."

Before she could finish, Shun lowered his head and kissed her.

This kiss carried his long-suppressed frustration and affection, it showed his urgency and possessiveness.

Yūgao's eyes widened abruptly, then slowly closed, and the hands that had been pressed against his chest gradually fell limp. Her rationality quietly crumbled amidst this sudden tenderness.

The kiss lasted a long time, until both of them were slightly breathless.

Shun's emotions grew even more excited. He held her waist, not letting her leave.

He looked down at Yūgao's flushed cheeks and moist lips, a strong sense of possessiveness welling up in his heart.

He bent down, scooped her up in his arms, and turned to walk towards the resting room inside the deliberation hall.

Yūgao lay in his arms, feeling soft all over. Even the fingers that usually gripped documents tightly had lost their strength.

She looked at Shun's taut jawline, felt his steady footsteps, and her heart was both flustered and filled with a strange anticipation.

It wasn't until he was about to step into the resting room that she used her last shred of rationality to gently grasp his lapel, her voice trembling. "Shun... no... no..."

Shun paused, looked down at the panic and reluctance in her eyes, and the excitement in his heart was replaced by tenderness. He didn't stop. Instead, he gently kissed her lips.

"Yūgao, I will take responsibility for you."

After speaking, he carried her into the resting room and gently closed the hall door.

Not long after, the heavy breathing of two people, mixed with occasional moans, emanated from the resting room, sounding exceptionally clear in the quiet hall.

After an unknown amount of time, the restlessness finally subsided.

Yūgao leaned in Shun's arms, covered by his warm brocade robe, which still carried his unique scent, making her feel exceptionally at ease.

She was silent for a moment, her eyes showing a hint of seriousness, and a trace of barely perceptible guilt.

"Shun, now that I am your woman, my heart can no longer hold anyone else. It's just that Hayate is still stationed at the border, and if it weren't for me back then..."

At this point, her voice trailed off, and a hint of apology appeared in her eyes.

"I feel quite bad about him. Could you transfer him back from the border? At least so he doesn't have to stay in such a dangerous place anymore."

Shun looked down at her, his fingertips gently brushing her reddened eyes.

Back then, Hayate really liked Yūgao, and then Shun sent him to guard the border for over five years.

He held Yūgao in his arms, letting her cheek rest against his chest, his eyes full of seriousness.

"Foolish girl, this is not your fault. Love is selfish. I will have Minato draft a transfer order shortly to bring Hayate back and arrange a leisurely position for him, so he won't have to risk his life at the border again."

Upon hearing this, Yūgao's eyes instantly lit up, as if filled with starlight. She leaned in and gently kissed his lips, her movements tinged with shyness.

"Thank you, Shun."

It was rare for Yūgao to kiss him on her own initiative, so Shun lowered his head and returned a deep kiss.

Unlike the previous urgency, this kiss was as gentle as a mischievous spring breeze, carrying the unspoken understanding between them.

Their breathing gradually grew heavier, and then they separated again.

This time, Yūgao's cheeks were even redder. She buried her head back in Shun's embrace, her hands tightly clutching his waist, as if she had found the warmest harbor.

Shun held her, his fingertips gently stroking her loose hair, and the irritation in his heart gradually dissipated.

"From now on, with me here, you don't need to worry about these troubling things anymore. I will protect you and help you deal with all your concerns."

Yūgao nodded gently in his arms, closed her eyes, and felt his body warmth and heartbeat.
