The next morning, Felix woke up at the crack of dawn. He stretched lazily as he got out of bed, then padded to the kitchen and began feeling around the pantry for ingredients.
Not long after, Jack walked into the kitchen, following the scent of pancakes and freshly brewed coffee.
"Good morning," Felix called, setting down a plate on the table. "Sleep well?"
"Morning," Jack's gaze drifted from the spread to Felix, his expression soft.
"Is there something on my face?" Felix asked, touching his cheeks.
Jack shook his head with a smile. The Felix in his memory was a little boy who barely reached the kitchen sink.
"I'm just happy. You've really grown."
Felix smiled. "Come, have a taste."
Jack sat down and started eating.
"Can I borrow your phone?" Felix asked after a moment. "I need to tell the rest I'm okay."
"Sure," Jack reached into his pocket and placed the phone on the table. "We can go get a new one later today."
