The sound of sirens pierced the air as fire trucks and ambulances arrived. Firefighters shouted commands, racing to put out fires and separate twisted wreckage. Paramedics moved urgently through the chaos, dragging stretchers, treating victims, and calling for supplies.
All the available hospitals across the city and neighboring counties had been alerted. Over fifty vehicles were involved in the crash, and many were feared dead.
Their car was upside down, its windows shattered. The front was crumpled beyond recognition, and the driver's side door was hanging open, swinging slightly.
"There are four people in this vehicle." Someone shouted.
The firefighters got to work prying the back doors open with the jaws of life.
"Get the first boy out," a paramedic ordered.
Jack stirred, barely conscious. "Felix…"
His hand reached out weakly and found Felix's.
He held on tight.
"One child is responsive," a medic called out, leaning into the car. "Kid, can you hear me?"
