Felix stood up.
Adrian sat up, sinking deeper into the seat, his breathing uneven, as he tried to calm his racing heart. He looked at Felix, who was standing in front of him, calm like nothing had happened. If the knock hadn't sounded, would they have—
Felix took a step back, and a flicker of something darker passed over his expression as he turned toward the front door.
"Seems like my time to shine has come," he muttered.
"Let me come with you," Adrian said, starting to rise.
But Felix hurried to his side, one hand pressing him back down. "Sit. You don't know your way around in the dark."
Without waiting for a reply, Felix expertly made his way to the front door. Despite the darkness, he didn't stumble once. His hands brushed across the wall, then stopped. He pressed a hidden button. With a soft click, a concealed section popped out. He pulled out a knife from the nook in the wall, gripping it with practiced ease.
He slowly opened the door, ready to strike.
