Cherreads

Chapter 5 - second encounter

Lila gulped awkwardly her eyes darting left and right trying to avoid Kate's gaze. She headed straight to the kitchen grabbing a glass cup.

"Wh-what do you mean by that?" she asked, her voice strained as she drowned herself in the glass of water.

Kate leaned against the doorway, her arms folded. Her eyes narrowed in on lila like a heat-seeking missile.

"Lila..." she said with a knowing drawl, lips curling into a slow smirk.

Lila didn't even look up. She chugged the water in like it could erase the whole situation here.

"What? What what what?" Lila sputtered, clearly on the verge of a breakdown, her tone climbing with every repeated word.

"The admirer.." Kate continued.

Lila's cheeks flamed. Her entire face flushed in a ridiculous shade of red.

"I have an interview today!" she blurted and bolted like her ass was on fire.

Kate stood there, frozen for half a second before her jaw dropped open.

She slapped a hand over her mouth to stop the squeal that bubbled out. Her cheeks pinked with secondhand embarrassment and joy.

"Oh my gosh," she whispered, giggling. "She did it. My girl finally popped the cherry."

Lila ran to her room, her face burning red. Her heart beating like the kings talking drum.

This is so bad.

She shoved her charger into the socket and plugged in her phone, pacing until the screen finally flickered to life.

"Kate!" she yelled. "What's the time?".

"Six forty-five!" came Kate's muffled, sleepy voice from the kitchen.

" Six What?!." Lila exclaimed.

Wasting no time, she sprinted toward the bathroom.

She flipped on the lights, grabbed her toothbrush, and got to work. But the moment she lifted her head to rinse, her breath hitched.

Three deep purple hickeys decorated the side of her neck.

"Oh, hell no."

She leaned closer to the mirror, touching the marks. Her mind flashed back to his lips, the heat of his breath against her skin.

"Nope!" she declared out loud, shaking her head violently. "Not thinking about it."

"You okay." Kate asked worriedly from outside.

"Yeah, I'm good." She quickly rinsed her mouth, stripped, and jumped into the shower. The hot water was supposed to clear her head, but instead, it only intensified the memories.

She groaned again, resting her forehead against the cool tile.

*Get a grip. It was just one night. One stupid, hot night with a stranger.*

*Move on.*

Ten minutes later, she stepped out, wrapped in a towel.

Before she could process what was happening.. "Eat." Kate stuffed a piece of toast in her mouth.

Lila blinked. "I haven't even—"

"Eat," Kate repeated firmly.

Lila sighed, taking a bite. "What's that?" she mumbled around the toast, nodding toward her bed.

Kate smirked, proud of herself. "The outfit I picked for you. You're welcome."

Lila's chest warmed. She stared at the neatly arranged blouse and blazer Kate had laid out. Emotion swelled inside her, "Oh, Kate....." She launched forward, wrapping her arms around her.

Kate groaned dramatically. "Ugh. You're being mushy."

"what would I do without you?"

"Probably fail at life." Kate retorted.

"ohhh, I love you so much." she tightened the hug.

"Yeah, yeah. Just don't mess up the blazer with your sappy tears." Then in a more serious tone, kate added, "Now, go get dressed before you miss the big deal."

Lila grinned through the lump in her throat, and pulled back. She slid into the room and got dressed quickly, slipping into the sleek professional outfit.

She turned to face Kate, giving a little spin.

"Well?"

Kate let out a low whistle. "Damn, bestie! Who is she? Who's giving that boss bitch vibes."

Lila smirked, flipping her hair. "Think I can pull off CEO?"

"I know you can."

They shared a grin Lila turning around a few more times. Kate handed her a cup of milk and a second piece of toast.

"Eat. No passing out on the job. And when you get back, I want details. Specially about last night. Don't even try to dodge it."

"Okay, okay, I will." Lila laughed, biting into the toast. "I'll spill everything."

Right then, a car honked right in front of their apartment.

"That's your ride." Kate said smugly, her eyebrow raised.

Lila blinked. "Wait... You ordered a cab for me?"

"Duh. I knew you'd be a mess this morning."

Lila's chest swelled again.

damn emotions.

She hugged her friend for the second time.

Kate hugged back but quickly pulled away. "Okay, okay, don't get all emotional on me. Did you grab your bag? Your file?"

Lila checked everything. "All good!"

"Then go!" Kate pushed her toward the door. "Good luck, bestie!"

"Thanks, bitch!" Lila called as she ran out.

Kate grinned, watching the taxi pull away before sighing dramatically.

"Finally. Peace."

She stretched, scratching her belly as she padded back to her room.

Lila stood outside SilverTech Enterprises, panting like she had just finished a marathon. Sweat beaded at her forehead, her professional outfit clinging uncomfortably to her skin.

She was late.

All because Kate, in her chaotic brilliance, had given the cab driver the wrong address. As a result he drove her five blocks away in the opposite direction.

By the time she figured out it was too late. She wanted to cursed her best friend. Although she wouldn't have made it on time if it wasn't for her help

"Just breathe, Lila," she muttered to herself dabbing her forehead with the sleeve of her blazer. She plastered on the most confident face she could muster, and pushed open the glass doors.

The lobby was everything. From the marble floors to the polished counters, everything screams luxury. It wasn't just the biggest company in the country no reason.

"Crap," Lila hissed as her eyes locked onto an elevator about to close.

Without thinking, she bolted across the lobby, her shoes clacking wildly on the floor. "Hold the elevator!" she shouted.

But the man inside made no move. He just stood there looking like she wasn't even in the view.

He was tall, with a medium length dark hair styled in a curtain. He held a coffee in one hand, the second in his pocket. He was dressed in a dark charcoal suit. His expression was still like it had always been like that for years.

The doors were nearly shut, and he just won't do nothing?

Luckily for Lila she was able to lunged forward at the last second, placing her arm between the panels. The doors jerked back open, and she stumbled inside, straight into the suited man.

"You could have held th—!" she stumbled over her feet unable to finish her sentence. She expected him to catch her like the gentleman he was dressed as but he side-stepped her, making her fall right into the wall.

Thud!

Her forehead smacked into the cool metal wall of the elevator.

"Ow—" she gasped, dazed.

She steadied herself immediately, her eyes turning as she kept stumbling left and right.

She reached back, grabbing onto the first thing she could find to steady herself.

Unfortunately, that "thing" turned out be hairy and strong, and also the back of the man's head.

The moment her fingers tangled in his hair, his hand jerked from his pocket and the coffee in his other hand splashed across his nice charcoal suit.

A stunned silence filled the elevator.

Lila froze, her eyes widening in horror.

She has wanted to scolded him before for his bad manners, but now she the one needs the scolding.

He turned his head slowly, his eyes darker than it's original color.

Oh god?! Lila gulped.

Droplets of coffee dripped from his lapel and his white shirt got stained to brown from the coffee. Lila was sure he could rip her off from the look in his eyes.

If only he was a girl she could have gladly given him her clothes to wear.

"Really?" he said, voice flat.

Lila's mouth opened and closed, like a fish gasping for oxygen. Her eyes darted left and right trying to avoid his eyes. "I..I didn't mean to, it was.. I hit my head and I just—reflex!"

He looked down at his soaked suit, then back at her, his left brow arched.

"You should work on your reflexes," he muttered, brushing off a coffee stain with a napkin that did absolutely nothing.

Lila awkwardly stepped to the corner of the elevator her cheeks burning. She felt so bad. She clutched unto her bag hoping the ground could swallow her at that moment.

Of all the ways to start her first impression

She watched the back of his head silently thinking frantically. She bit her tongue as tension built in her

The suit he was wearing looked custom-made. And if anything she was sure she wouldn't be able to afford it combined with her brother's medical fees.

In between her thought a familiar scent hit her exactly like the man from that morning.

Additionally the shape of their head from the back is typically the same

"Is that possible?" Lila fidget pinching her nails.

Could this be spike?
