Chapter 25 - Chapter 13: You're Sending Emergency Patients Here Too? (Part 2)

This was undoubtedly good news for him.

...

Monday.

Normal working day.

Lu Xuan had just sat down when Cheng Gaowen walked in.

"How do you feel after taking the medicine?"

As he spoke, Lu Xuan placed his hand on Cheng Gaowen's pulse, diagnosing while observing her complexion.

Cheng Gaowen honestly described her physical sensations: "My period is approaching, not as severe as before, but there's still a slight abdominal pain."

"Stick out your tongue."

Cheng Gaowen stuck out her tongue, and Lu Xuan took a quick look, "That's fine."

With that, he withdrew his gaze and opened the medical record, falling into deep thought.

"The pulse is different from last time, but it's still hard to determine, the tongue is dull, with a thin, greasy coating..."

[Fine, soft pulse, dull tongue with thin, greasy coating, indicative of liver and kidney deficiency, accompanied by blood stasis and qi stagnation; the focus should be on nourishing the blood and improving circulation to regulate menstruation.]

While Lu Xuan was still contemplating, the standard answer appeared.

I see.

Lu Xuan suddenly understood and then said, "It's much better than last week. I'll prescribe another dose, and we'll reassess on Friday."

"Okay."

Cheng Gaowen was aware of her condition. Her periods used to be extremely painful, but now it's just a slight pain, proving Lu Xuan's medicine was effective, albeit slowly. Full recovery would take more than a couple of days.

Chinese medicine treats the root cause, and curing this condition would likely take at least a month or two.

[Add 12g of Puhuang, 12g of Agrimony, remove White Atractylodes, Hawthorn, Liu Ji Nu, Codonopsis, Astragalus, and increase Danggui to 9g, Red and White Peony to 6g, and Corydalis to 6g.]

After prescribing the medicine, Cheng Gaowen didn't linger, confident in Lu Xuan's medical skills, with no doubt.

Not long after Cheng Gaowen left, Zhou Liting arrived.

Zhou Liting's condition was similar to the last description, but her pulse and tongue coating improved significantly after a few days of medicine.

This time, the focus should be on strengthening the spleen and eliminating parasites.

Lu Xuan buried his head in writing the prescription.

[Roasted Danggui 9g, Roasted White Atractylodes 9g, Fuling 12g, Betel Nut 9g, Roasted Citrus Peel 4.5g, Fruit-of-Shikaka 9g, Thunder God Vine 4.5g, Rhizoma Coptidis 4.5g, Cypress Seed 4.5g, Black Plum 3g.]

Lu Xuan returned the medical record to Zhou Liting, stood up, and said, "Take it for three days; it should take effect."

After saying that, he stood up and went to the pharmacy to prepare the medicine.

With the medicine in hand, Zhou Liting also left.

Only then did Lu Xuan look at the computer, noticing no one had registered for the Chinese medicine department, feeling slightly disappointed but quickly regaining his spirits, he recorded Cheng Gaowen and Zhou Liting's follow-up situations one by one.

"If there were more patients registered, I might be too busy to sort all of these."

Organizing medical records isn't an easy task, something Lu Xuan anticipated, yet it's still a bit of a headache. Luckily, his photographic memory gave him the ability to record, otherwise, keeping track of the prescriptions alone would be challenging.

While Lu Xuan was orderly organizing medical records, Lv Huilan suddenly rushed up from the registration office downstairs, bursting into the consultation room with a worried expression.

Seeing Lv Huilan's face, Lu Xuan hurriedly asked, "What's wrong?"

At this moment, Wang Youqing from the laboratory department also noticed something was wrong here and came over. He heard Lv Huilan explain the situation downstairs, getting increasingly furious, "This is simply absurd!"

Lv Huilan also seemed to get angrier the more she talked, raising her voice significantly, "Exactly, Dr. Lu, isn't this making things difficult for us? Acute heart failure, City First Hospital tried to rescue for five days without success, the patient's life is at risk, they've been discharged to prepare for funeral arrangements, and now they're sending the patient to us. It's ridiculous, right?"

Lv Huilan had never been this angry before, not even that day when Zhou Minjun brought Nini, who accidentally swallowed a screw. She just slightly advised and even helped register for the Chinese medicine department.

But this time, the situation was different; the other party was deliberately making things difficult for their Health Center.

Wang Youqing rarely turned red, "This is sheer madness."

"Isn't it?"

Lv Huilan added, "Isn't this just bullying us? First Hospital discharged them to prepare for funerals, and they're sending the patient to our Health Center, isn't that irresponsible? They say they want us to try, but is this something we can just try?

To be blunt, if First Hospital can't bear the responsibility, can our Health Center?"

"This situation requires urgent care."

Wang Youqing chimed in.

Lv Huilan spread her hands, "That's what I said, but Uncle, guess what the family said?

They said they heard from an elderly man in their neighborhood about a highly skilled Chinese doctor at our Health Center, so they wanted to try, hoping for at least another year or six months.

But who doesn't know, urgent care is Western medicine's domain, and besides, I've seen City First Hospital's discharge report and summary; the patient's heart, liver, and kidneys have substantial damage, heart failure of grade III, thoracic effusion, and major arterial lesions with necrotic growths accompanied by prolapse. With all these conditions, even one, our Health Center can't manage, let alone all together, isn't this making things difficult for our Health Center, especially for Dr. Lu?

Saying it nicely is making a last attempt, but what if something happens at our Health Center, who takes responsibility then?"

Wang Youqing frowned.

Lu Xuan also sighed.

Though what Lv Huilan said was harsh, she spoke the truth.

The Health Center is meant for primary care, minor issues like colds are fine, but emergencies require big hospitals.

Moreover, though the patient has received a critical warning from City First Hospital and the family has been advised to prepare for the end, if something happens at the Health Center, it would be hard to explain.

If the family understands, it won't be an issue. Still, with difficult family members, treating the patient would only invite trouble.

Doctors are meant to save lives, but protecting oneself is crucial too. Encountering medical disputes is distressing, and it impacts the career; many have had to leave the profession as a result.

"Huilan, calm down first."

"What does the director say?"

After listening to Lv Huilan, Wang Youqing thought for a moment and asked.

Taking a deep breath, Lv Huilan replied, "The director is explaining to the family downstairs, but seeing the situation, if Dr. Lu doesn't go down, the family might not leave."

"If it were just the family, it'd be fine, but they've brought the patient too. The director is worried something might happen, so she asked me to fetch Dr. Lu, hoping he could advise the patient and family to leave. Even if treatment is needed, it should be at a major hospital."

Wang Youqing looked at Lu Xuan: "Lu, in that case, you should go down, otherwise…if the person dies at our Health Center, that would be a huge issue."

Lu Xuan understood the urgency and quickly responded, "Alright, I'm going down now."

He couldn't even spare attention to the surrounding noise.

Any singular symptom mentioned by Lv Huilan was life-threatening, let alone all combined, making it a situation more severe than the mere sum of its parts.

To be blunt, the patient's heart could stop at any moment, leading to brain death.

When it comes to life and death, it's never a trivial matter.

Glancing at the elevator still on the fourth floor, Lu Xuan headed straight for the stairs.

Thinking it over, Wang Youqing also followed, "I'll go with you."

He was concerned about Lu Xuan acting impulsively.

The director would certainly negotiate with the other party, leaving less room to remind Lu Xuan, hence why he was there.

Both headed downstairs, and as they reached the registration hall, they found the director surrounded, with a man appearing to be under thirty sitting in a wheelchair, barely breathing.
