The triangle creature made a good point; they wouldn't follow human rules for survival. Maybe they would hide underground out of helplessness, but their man-eating nature wouldn't change.
It won't reason with its food, just like humans won't reason with chicken stew with mushrooms.
Likewise, if humans discover their existence, they probably won't tolerate them.
That makes the problem much simpler because there are creatures above them on the food chain.
