For many years, in the occasional moments of leisure amidst his busy schedule, Tom has been troubled by one question.
Who am I?
This question may seem a bit too philosophical, but for Tom, it is a very real and extremely important question.
Am I Tom? Am I human?
But there has never been a human civilization on Earth.
If I am not Tom, and not human, then who am I?
Where did I come from, and where am I going?
The identity of being human, and the experiences, memories, and beautiful moments of being human on Earth—father, mother, friends, teachers, colleagues, and so on—these memories and experiences constitute the basic elements of Tom as a person.
If everything in his memory is false, does not exist at all, and is merely something forcibly implanted into his mind by some super civilization for reasons he does not yet understand, then Tom's mental world will collapse.
For many years, Tom dared not think deeply about this issue.
