The seriousness of the situation slowly settled over the room like a heavy cloud.
"This doesn't sound good," Anna said quietly, the weight of everything beginning to sink in.
First Daniel had been in an accident. Then the driver involved had suddenly died. Everything had happened so quickly that it felt as if whoever was behind it had planned every detail carefully. It was almost as though the person responsible had already anticipated every loose end and eliminated it before anyone could trace it back.
The thought alone made Anna uneasy.
"Now how are we supposed to find out who did it?" she asked, turning toward Daniel.
Daniel had remained silent the entire time, his gaze fixed somewhere ahead as if he were piecing together fragments of a puzzle that only he could see.
Henry also looked toward his boss. Daniel's silence was something he had learned to read over the years. When Daniel stopped speaking, it meant his mind was already several steps ahead, analyzing possibilities.
