Collin was not someone she could afford to provoke. Not now. Not when too many things were already in motion. She understood him well enough to know that when he drew a line, he meant it.
"I have no intention of ruining anything," she said more carefully this time. "I am not careless."
"I hope not," Collin replied.
Silence settled between them.
Roseline straightened her posture, regaining her composure. She had worked too hard to secure Hugo's trust again. She would not allow doubt to interfere with it.
But even as she reassured herself, Collin's words echoed in her mind.
Not an easy person to deal with.
She knew that was true.
And she had no desire to test it.
While Roseline and Collin carried on their tense conversation, unaware of unseen ears, someone else was listening to every single word.
It was Hugo.
