"And you don't remember anything?" Ethan asked quietly once she finished. "How is that even possible?"
Kathrine looked down, rubbing her palms together as if trying to wipe something invisible away. "With me?" she let out a hollow sigh. "Anything is possible."
Her shoulders sagged, the fight draining out of her all at once.
Her life had been strange ever since the accident. Ever since the day she ran from her wedding. The same day the nightmares had begun.
"It wasn't even something dramatic," she said softly. "I just slipped in the shower. The floor was wet, and I lost my balance." She shook her head. "But I hit my head hard. I blacked out."
Ethan listened without interrupting, his jaw tight.
"When I woke up," she continued, "things weren't… normal anymore. Small things felt wrong. Memories felt out of place. And then the dreams started."
She lifted her eyes to him. "You know that day at your house? I wasn't overreacting. I really saw myself burning."
