The conference room on the forty-second floor had floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city.
Ryan sat at the head of the table, watching his legal team present the final ownership transfer documents, Kane sat to his right, tablet in hand, taking notes with the focused intensity of someone still learning the corporate language but refusing to show it.
"The last of the casino conversions will be complete by next quarter," Jennifer Wu, his lead attorney, was saying, she clicked through a presentation on the screen behind her. "All gambling operations now fully licensed and regulated, the hotels are already rebranded under the Slade Hospitality Group umbrella."
Ryan nodded. "What about the bars?"
"Fourteen locations, all now legitimate. Health permits, liquor licenses, everything in order." Jennifer's smile was professional. "You're completely clean, Mr. Slade."
The title still sounded strange. Mr. Slade. Like his father might walk through the door any moment and reclaim it.
