The university rooftop was bathed in warm sunlight, with a gentle breeze.
Bai Ye leaned against the shaded area, enjoying the cool air while listening to Gwen recount her origins.
According to Gwen, she came from an organization comprised of various Spider-Man counterparts from different Universes. Their purpose was to prevent individuals or objects from entering other Universes due to temporal distortions.
Even if these stowaways weren't inherently hostile, the differences between Universes could cause devastating environmental pollution.
"Imagine it," Gwen explained seriously, holding up her index finger, "When a Two-dimensional character enters a 3D or live-action Universe, how would the world and the character coexist?"
"In such a situation, the world, due to version incompatibility, would forcibly eliminate the outsider through rejection."
"But the outsider's very existence would be like a cancer cell, polluting a large area of the environment before being destroyed, and possibly even leading to the destruction of the Universe."
"Like...you?" Bai Ye asked, looking at the other person.
"What do you mean, 'like me'?" Gwen asked, confused, before letting out an unbearable scream.
A wave of pain, as if she were being pricked by needles, surged through her body, followed by a covering of colorful, fragmented code, like tiny shards of glass.
Bai Ye watched the scene quietly, his expression unchanged, with no intention of helping.
No wonder Bai Ye felt a strange sense of disharmony when he saw Gwen's appearance earlier, even though she was beautiful.
It turned out that the Universe she belonged to leaned towards Two-dimensional.
He also understood the plot. It was most likely a crossover from the animated movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Bai Ye was already well aware of his own Monster Magnet constitution, which inexplicably always pulled him into various plots.
But compared to the previous unease and irritability, Bai Ye had now adapted and was enjoying the protagonist treatment of having the whole world revolve around him.
This was the ease of invincibility.
Just when he was worried about being bored with nothing to do, the fun seemed to grow legs and come knocking on its own, wave after wave. It wasn't actually that bad.
However, sometimes too many things happened at once, making him unsure which one to deal with first.
If he could, Bai Ye even wanted those events to take a number like going to the bank, to be a bit more orderly.
After he finished one, he could orderly move on to the next, which would make things easier to handle.
The garbled code on Gwen in front of him came and went quickly, soon fading away, and the girl returned to her normal state.
She complained with some dissatisfaction: "The wristwatch you took from me just now is a device that makes the body compatible with the world. This situation will occur after you remove it."
"Oh." Bai Ye nodded, still not intending to return the wristwatch, but continued to ask, "But I also traveled through a Universe before, why didn't this happen? Is it because I'm too strong?"
"Traveling through a Universe... it really is you!" Gwen widened her eyes. Sure enough, the guy in front of her was the culprit she was looking for.
Bai Ye was puzzled, "What do you mean, 'it really is me'?"
"It's you! When you traveled through spacetime, you placed a Black Hole at the landing point in that Universe, causing the entire Galaxy's gravitational field to shift, indirectly killing several of our Spider teams."
Gwen recounted Bai Ye's atrocities as if she knew them intimately.
Thinking of the accidental deaths of several Spider seniors she knew within the organization, she was filled with righteous indignation.
Although this was considered accidental combat loss, they were later revived through the organization's internal resurrection device, but this still caused public outrage.
After an internal decision, they felt they couldn't just let it go, so they sent her to investigate the situation.
Bai Ye: ...
If the other party hadn't brought it up, Bai Ye would have completely forgotten about it.
So the thing he'd come up with on a whim actually had this kind of amazing effect. How... interesting.
Thinking this, Bai Ye revealed a smile devoid of morals, almost making Gwen lose her cool.
"Let's get back to the previous question. Why didn't I experience the situation you described when I came to another Universe?" Bai Ye asked.
Might makes right; Gwen had to suppress her temper and crossed her arms, explaining, "Because the deviation values of the two Universes are about the same, and the parameters are similar, there naturally won't be any rejection reaction."
"Our organization mainly monitors the connection of different versions of the Universe. For travel between similar Universes, after registration, we generally don't interfere with the connection between these two Universes."
"This time, it's mainly because we lost several team members just from the detection. Otherwise, we wouldn't even have come to you about this."
"Now I've told you everything. Can I go now?" Gwen said.
"Let you go? Are you kidding? So you can go back and call for backup?" Bai Ye rolled his eyes. "Just wait for your teammates to come and rescue you."
"What do you mean!" Gwen had a bad feeling.
"It's simple. You won't be leaving this planet. You'll be imprisoned on this 510 million square kilometer planet, and you can't take a single step off it," Bai Ye announced.
'Imprisoned… on this planet?' Gwen stared at Bai Ye's words, stunned. She felt a domineering vibe from his words.
Indeed, for Bai Ye, the planet beneath his feet was just a few steps away.
As long as the girl didn't leave the planet, he could find her anytime, so the decision to imprison her on this planet was very reasonable.
As he spoke, Bai Ye took something out of his space. Then, he tossed a wad of cash to the girl.
"Here, don't think about those weird things anymore. Take this money and settle down first. I'll find you later if something comes up," Bai Ye said.
"Why do I feel like I'm being taken care of?" Gwen wondered, a strange thought entering her mind.
Then, seeing Bai Ye about to leave, she quickly spoke, "Hey, at least give me back my Wristwatch! Without it, the entire Universe will reject me."
"What do you mean, 'your' Wristwatch? On my planet, it naturally belongs to me. Even you belong to me."
Bai Ye corrected, then continued, "The Wristwatch is still being studied. Once we understand its principles, I'll give you a neutered version."
"My teammates will definitely come looking for me when they realize I'm out of contact. You wouldn't want..." Gwen continued.
"Then let them come. Do you think my methods are more brutal, or that they are stronger?"
After Bai Ye finished speaking, he lightly leaped in front of the stiff-faced Gwen and instantly vanished.
Before leaving, Bai Ye glanced at the girl again: The Multiverse, huh? Perfect timing. What a treasure-bearing child.
And at this moment, Gwen felt that because of her being out of contact, many of her teammates would fall into Bai Ye's big pit.
