"No, no, no, sir, you're mistaken," the lawyer said with a smile. "Don't forget, if the tax bill passes, you'll also have to pay a tax on books."
"Fuck you, both you and Bai Ye, the mutant bastard! Fuck you!" the patient roared.
"If you don't want to pay more, please watch your language. That statement clearly demonstrates extreme discriminatory malice towards Mr. Bai and myself."
The lawyer remained unfazed, continuing to smile. "I've recorded the entire conversation. If I wanted to, you'd also have to compensate me for emotional distress. It'd be like making some extra money on the side."
After saying that, the lawyer ducked his head, startled, as a vase from the patient's bedside flew towards him.
BANG!
With a sharp cracking sound, the lawyer quickly made his escape, leaving Bete alone to fume.
"I'm telling you, this isn't over! I'll fight you to the end, bankrupt you all, and make that Bai Ye bastard get what he deserves!" Bete yelled.
Outside the hospital room, the lawyer's face was a little pale. "Boss, you absolutely have to give me a raise for this. It's too dangerous."
Standing before the lawyer was a two-meter-tall, powerfully built man with gray skin, as tough as a rhinoceros.
It was Tombstone, Kingpin's top enforcer.
"You'll get what you're owed. What did the person inside say?" Tombstone asked.
The lawyer nodded. "Well, he cursed Mr. Bai again."
"Then add him to the list. After we've talked to everyone, we'll break the arms of those who cursed again. These guys never learn, doubling my workload," Tombstone cursed.
Late at night, Bete heard the screams coming from the next room, followed by the sound of the entire hospital's alarm system blaring.
What the hell happened? Bete thought fearfully. Then, he saw the door to his room pushed open, and a blood-covered man walked in.
"So it's Bete, huh? Don't you ever learn?" the bloodied man complained.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Bete stammered, fearfully trying to back away, but his broken legs were suspended in mid-air, unable to move.
"Who? Why, I'm a huge fan of Bai Ye, of course. Here to pay you a return visit."
The bloodied man sighed in exasperation. "Your legs are broken, and you're still talking tough? Can you even say Bai Ye's name? I'm going to jail for beating you, you know?"
With that, the man, holding a solid steel baseball bat, stepped forward and raised it high. "The other patients are sleeping, so try to keep it down."
"No! Please! I won't report you! I don't dare! I don't want the money!" Bete cried in terror.
But there's no turning back in this world. Like the others in the ward, a scream of agony erupted from his mouth.
Four seconds later, the man casually shouldered the bat and said, "Another Bai Ye fan will be paying you a return visit in a while. Hopefully, you'll be more careful with your words next time."
"Remember to give my service a good review, okay?"
After saying that, he shoved past the bewildered doctor, under Bete's furious gaze, and walked towards a nearby ward.
"You, you can't do this," the doctor mustered the courage to say.
The man didn't get angry at the doctor. Instead, he clasped his hands together and pleaded, "Gomen nasai, it's all for work. Please understand. I'm going to prison anyway. Don't hold it against me. If we finish quickly, it won't affect the other patients' sleep."
"This also counts as boosting the hospital's performance. Let's cooperate more in the future," the man said with a smile. Bullshit, boosting the hospital's performance. Do I have to thank you guys? the doctor cursed inwardly.
Within 10 minutes, everything was over, thanks to Bai Ye's enthusiastic fans' return visits, and then the police finally arrived.
"Take me away quickly. I'm guilty, I admit everything. I just didn't like them, and it has nothing to do with my idol Bai Ye," the few fanatical fans who had attacked the others automatically held out their hands.
The police: ...
Even though they knew Bai Ye was involved, they didn't have any evidence to charge him.
"This is too arrogant, isn't it?" a police officer couldn't help but say from behind.
"What can you do? I heard that the daughter of the New York Police Department's chief is one of Bai Ye's girlfriends," the team leader said, sharing gossip he'd heard.
"Oh, so the chief is on Bai Ye's side too? No wonder he's been taking leave lately; he's avoiding suspicion," the officer nodded in understanding.
"You're just figuring this out? Be careful what you say around here. Don't say anything you shouldn't. Wilson, the frontrunner in the mayoral race, is also one of Bai Ye's people. New York City will be completely under Bai Ye's control soon," the police team leader said.
"This is too much," Coulson said angrily, looking at the report from Bai Ye in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s headquarters.
"Director, are we just going to let Bai Ye continue causing trouble like this?" Coulson asked.
"Did Bai Ye break any laws? Do you have any evidence?" Nick Fury asked. "At least he's willing to play within the rules, instead of flipping the table."
Natasha scoffed, "You don't think this is flipping the table? He's being openly aggressive."
Nick Fury chuckled. If he hadn't suppressed the incident at the Canadian U.S. military base, the repercussions would have been hundreds of times greater.
"But this is already crossing the line, isn't it?" Coulson said. "Especially Kingpin. He was originally a law-abiding gang leader. Why is he following Bai Ye down this path of madness?"
"There are more important matters now. Let's put Bai Ye's issues on hold for a few days," Nick Fury said.
"What important matters?" Natasha asked.
Of course, it's Hydra. Nick Fury thought to himself, remaining silent. Instead, he slowly said, "In a few days, have everyone gather at headquarters. The United Nations suspects that we have some traitors within our organization regarding the nuclear missile incident, so they've ordered us to conduct a self-investigation."
Hearing this, everyone nodded in agreement. Such a major event indeed warranted a thorough self-examination.
However, with tens of thousands of people within the organization, uncovering the small group of spies hidden amongst them was proving incredibly difficult.
Nick Fury lightly tapped his phone. In the contact list within, Professor X's name was prominently displayed.
The previous S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters naturally possessed devices capable of blocking Professor X's telepathic probing. After all, the organization had too many secrets; precautions were essential.
However, if they were to shut down those devices for a short while on the day of the headquarters gathering, everything would become clear.
Although there was a certain risk involved in doing so, it was worth the attempt to expose the traitors within the organization.
