Willow stumbled back, her hand flying to her scalp, the sting still shooting through her skull. "Are you insane?" she snapped, glaring at Astrid. "Why would you pull my hair like that?"
Astrid blinked, almost amused that Willow dared to raise her voice. Then, with a slow, mocking scoff, she tilted her head. "Look at you," she drawled. "You actually speak so well." Her eyes swept down Willow's frame, dripping with disdain. "Maybe I should cut off that sharp little tongue of yours."
The way she said it calmly, almost thoughtful made Willow's stomach twist. She was sure Astrid wasn't joking, and that was the worst part.
A bitter laugh slipped from Willow's lips. She glanced around. Several students were staring, wide-eyed but the moment her gaze met theirs, they quickly looked away. Of course they did. No one wanted to get involved when an Ascendant was involved.
Willow inhaled deeply, forcing herself to steady her pulse. She wasn't going to give Astrid the satisfaction.
