By noon, the truck rolled into the district. A lively sprawl of weathered houses and busy streets. People moved about in worn gear and patched uniforms, and from the look of them, Willow could tell they were all Dregs and Rangers. The air was gritty but full of life.
Climbing into the back of the truck to say her goodbyes, Willow found Navian sitting on a chair, fast asleep, his head tilted slightly to the side. Ace, Eden, and Nix were already gathering their bags.
"You guys are leaving too?" she asked.
"Yeah," Eden said, flashing her a grin. "It was fun, wasn't it?"
"We'll see each other again," Ace added with a small smile.
Nix said nothing, pretending Willow didn't exist, but Willow didn't let it bother her. She slung her bag over her shoulder, gave the guys a wave, and allowed herself one last lingering glance at Navian before heading back to the front seat beside Remi.
