After a lively breakfast filled with Oliver's endless stories about his "very serious responsibilities" as the master of two gorgeous, yet stubborn animals, Cloud and Browny, Evelyn walked Axel to the main door.
Their only son was nowhere to be seen.
"He didn't even say goodbye," Axel muttered.
Evelyn smiled. "He's in the barn. He's too busy feeding his horse and pony. Apparently, they can't survive without him."
Axel sighed in amused disappointment. "I see. I've been replaced."
"You have," she said sweetly. "By a horse and a pony."
He narrowed his eyes at her, but the corner of his lips lifted.
The morning air was cool as they stepped outside together. Axel gently held her hand while they walked toward his car. His grip was warm and steady, like always.
"I wish I didn't have to go to the office today," Axel said softly.
Evelyn glanced at him. "Didn't you say you have so many meetings that require you to attend, because otherwise they would be wasteful meetings?"
