It took Evelyn several long breaths to process Axel's shocking sentence.
For a moment, the world around her seemed to fade. The soft morning light, the warmth of the bed, even the steady sound of his breathing—everything blurred as her mind struggled to catch up with what he had just said.
'He was supposed to sleep with Harper Cooper...!?'
The words echoed painfully in her head.
Without realizing it, questions began to flood her thoughts so quickly that it felt as if her chest were tightening with each one.
'Why did he say he was supposed to sleep with Harper?'
'What did that mean?'
'Were they dating?'
'Oh no! Had I interrupted something that was already planned?'
'Heaven! Had I seriously ruined his night?'
Her heart thudded heavily against her ribs.
And then another thought surfaced.
'What does that have to do with Harper Cooper's son?'
'Noway! So, they sleep after that? Wait... no. He admits he never sleeps with other women after he sleeps with me, right?'
