"Because you're pregnant. Pregnant people get hungry." Axel said it as if it were a universal law, unchangeable and written in stone.
"Well, Mr. Knight, this pregnant person is fine."
He narrowed his eyes. "Then why is there a frown on your forehead?"
She exhaled softly and refocused on her current concern. "Axel... I'm going to fly to Grayenfall."
That wiped the teasing right off his face. His arms loosened. His expression shifted into something sharper, more serious. "Why? When?"
"I was supposed to leave this weekend," she admitted. "But I canceled it to stay with you. I'll go after the funeral."
Axel looked at her as if she had just announced she wanted to move to Mars. "You want to go to another city. And now you canceled it because of me?"
"Of course. You needed me."
The seriousness in Axel's face softened for only a heartbeat before a familiar warmth settled into his gaze. He pulled her closer again, brushing his lips over her forehead.
