Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Reise

27 years after the hero Himmel's passing

Reise looked down at the ashes on the ground with accomplishment. His long sword was now clean as the blood on it vanished.

" Looks like I can now start my journey." He said to himself.

Reise walked to his wooden house, located far south of the royal city. He opened the wooden door and was greeted by a few children reading his books.

He placed his sword on the wall and walked toward the kids.

" What are you reading, Emi?" He asked the young female kid, roughly patting her hair.

" Himmel's chronicle. I can't believe the hero slayed the immortal bose. Demons are strong right? How did he do that?"

Reise rubbed his chin and shrugged, " I don't know. But one thing's for sure, demons are not that strong."

" Now…now." He clapped his hands to gather all the kid's attention. " It is time to leave."

" Ahh.."

" No way."

All the kids grumbled and protested. " Too soon, Reise."

" I want to read."

" You can go read in your home. Last week, your parents complained to me about you guys not doing the homework."

Reise grabbed a chair and sat down, " And I am going to leave this place."

" So is it the time?"

A young kid with black hair stood up, he carried a huge book with him.

Reise nodded.

" I want to follow you." The kid said. All his friends nodded.

Seeing the group of kids coming to his seat, Reise sighed. When he first arrived at this place, he was loner. With nothing but a few words of encouragement from Goddesses and a sword.

Well, there was a guide book written by Himmel. Reise thought.

The first friends he made were these kids.

" I am going alone. It is dangerous. I can't take anyone. Besides, your parents would worry sick."

" So this is the last time we are going to see you?" One of the kids said.

Reise smiled. " Maybe. Or maybe not. Who knows?"

The group was silent. Reise got up from the chair and said, " No need for a sad goodbye. As a parting gift, I will give you all the books I have. Come on, let's pick the books."

He walked to the bookshelf and started taking out the books. After emptying the shelf, he looked at the book pile.

" All right, I will help you guys carry the books."

Reise lifted up the books and walked outside the house. Their group was large. After 15 minutes of walking, they arrived at the small village.

" Where should we put the books?" the kid asked.

Reise thought and answered, " To the church."

Reise reached the village square, where a small church stood. He pushed the door open.

" Priest Doun, I have come to drop my book."

The priest looked at the group, sighed and spoke softly. " Come here. I will organize the book."

After putting down the book, Reise stretched his arms.

Suddenly, the priest asked, " So is it the time?"

" Yes." Reise replied.

" It has been five years since you came to the village. You were just a kid." The priest said. His tone was reminiscent of the past.

Reise chuckled. " Indeed. Now I have become an adult." He walked to the holy altar and prayed to the Goddess.

Reise was a regular guy from Earth. His death was unremarkable but for unknown reason, he was greeted by the Goddess.

Goddess granted him another life and put him to the world of Frieren. At first, Reise planned to live as a normal villager but he found a book in his wooden house.

A book written by the hero, Himmel. In the book were various sword techniques of the hero. Following the book, Reise trained himself. He sometimes helped the villagers and played with the kids.

Just like that 5 years passed. Reise didn't know why the Goddess chose him. He had been thinking about that for a long time.

" Can you tell me why you are trying to be an adventurer?"

Reise shook his head, " I don't even know myself. I just want to see why the Goddess chose me."

The priest nodded.

Reise went to his wooden house. In front of the house was a broken stone monument. The priest told him that when he first arrived at this place, the monument shone with brilliant light.

And then, the village found him lying on the ground, naked.

He went inside the house and grabbed a bag he prepared last night. He fastened his longsword to his waist and checked himself.

He wore a grey thick cloak, a gift from a village grandma.

" Where should I go?" Reise thought. He didn't have any destined place in his head.

" Since I have a book from Himmel, I should give it to Frieren. Maybe I can join her party."

" But I don't know where she is? She should be with Fern. I will just head to the northern side and wait for her party. Before that I should get my mage license."

" I don't think I am a first class mage but I am confident I can reach fifth class mage. Let's head to the holy city."

Reise turned around to get a look at his house for the last time. He picked up a small rock and put it inside his bag.

He then walked to the royal city. His plan was to find a way to go to the holy city.
