Chapter 23 - Chapter 3: The Clue Left Behind

Author's POV

As the girls were looking around the small room filled with old records, Aravali saw a file with a Sigil on it the same as the symbol on their old protection charms or weapons. Aravali picked up the file with a curious mind.

Aravali's POV

As I picked up that file, I saw that the Sigil on it quite familiar, and I realised that it was the same as the symbol on our charms. I called the other girls, "Hey, guys, come here!"

Their attention shifted towards me.

"What happened?" Iaa asked me with a concerned look.

"Now what did you break?" Shiva asked

"I broke nothing, but I think we found out where to fix Sita's necklace." I told them with a happy smile

Sita's POV

When I heard about what Aravali said, I was in shock "What!? Are you serious?" I asked her as I thought she was joking.

"Yes, I am, see this file has the same symbol we have on our charms," she replied.

I screamed in happiness and hugged Aravali.

"Let's open it", Aravli said.

Author's POV

Aravali opened the file and saw some pictures of the oldest generation with an address of a small town in East India named Sheerghat.

The room fell quiet as their eyes rested on the old, slightly faded address. The paper smelled of dust, ink, and time. None of them had ever heard of Sheerghat before. It wasn't a city. It wasn't on any tourist map. It looked like one of those places that only appeared in stories your grandparents told when the lights went out.

Shiva leaned closer, squinting.

"Sheerghat… Sounds like a place where creepy stuff goes down in horror movies," she said, half-joking, half-serious.

Iaa shook her head with a slight smile, although her eyebrows furrowed slightly.

"Maybe. But this is the only lead we have."

Aravalli continued flipping through the papers. Inside the file, there were old letters, written in graceful ink strokes. Some names were named, but one was repeated throughout.

Kartikya.

Sita read the name softly.

"Kartikya… Who is he?

No one answered. Because none of them had any idea.

Iaa's POV

"We should go there," I told her-it just came out, really, as if my heart had already decided upon it, before the rest of me knew.

Shiva raised an eyebrow.

"Like? Just pack up and head to some random old town?"

"Do you have a better idea?" I crossed my arms, addressing him.

Silence

Sita looked down at the broken necklace.

"If there's even a small chance I can get this fixed… I'm going."

Aravali nodded, her usual chaotic enthusiasm.

"And I wanna see what type of people sent us all this charm-protection-family-legacy stuff. Sounds… cool."

Shiva sighed, but in that Shiva way-the way that meant she was already in.

"Fine. But if anyone summons a ghost again, I'm blaming Aravali." Iaa and I said in chorus, "Ffair."

Author's POV

The decision was made. Just like that. The air shifted in the old room; the house itself almost seemed to exhale. As if it knew this was the next step. Duh… they were going to Sheerghat. And far away in that quiet town, behind fog and forests and old temples, Someone paused… as if he felt something. Like he knew they were coming.
