"You did this on purpose."
Grace stormed in, her anger palpable.
I found it amusing and looked up at her. "So what?"
"Don't gloat, Delia. You'll soon have nothing. Everything you have will be mine!"
"Everything? What do I have? I've had nothing to begin with."
Grace clutched my clothes, her eyes devoid of her usual innocence and vitality, replaced by jealousy and madness.
"What do you mean you have nothing? You have wealthy biological parents, a legitimate heiress status, and even this pretty face that tempts Edward. If not for the fear of being discovered, do you think I would spare your face?"
I looked at her contorted expression, feigning ignorance.
"Spare me? What do you mean?"
She looked at me, her sinister smile widening.
"You don't know, do you? The people who kidnapped us, I hired them, you know. To test who was more important to Edward, you or me, I had to do it this way. And as you can see, the results are clear. You shouldn't blame me. Anyway, you'll soon be kicked out of the house. When that happens, I'll give you some money so you won't starve."
I keenly caught the loophole in her words.
"Why would I be kicked out of the house?"
She hesitated, realizing her slip, a hint of annoyance in her eyes, quickly overshadowed by triumph.
"It doesn't matter if I tell you. You should know that our parents left us some shares, right?"
I didn't respond.
It was true, but compared to the money my parents usually gave Grace for houses and cars, my shares were nothing.
"Those were supposed to be all mine! Why should you get a share just because you share their blood? I refuse to accept it! So, I got in touch with Dad's assistant and together we quietly moved all the company's funds out. By the time you realize, even with shares, you won't get any money. If Edward finds out, he will surely come back to me! He's with you now, isn't it just for your face and your nominal status as heir!"
I looked at the venomous face in front of me and sneered.
How could someone be so foolish, betraying the parents who raised her for over twenty years for a man.
I put on a shocked and scared expression.
"How could you do this? What am I supposed to do now?"
Seeing the result she wanted, Grace stood up.
"Don't worry. As long as you kneel and beg me later, I'll help you a little."
I inwardly scoffed, but on the surface, I shed a few painful tears.
Watching Grace leave triumphantly, I extracted a mini camera from the eye of the doll beside my bed and held it in my hand.
My plan was just beginning.
