Chapter 76 - Who else can't fly

Those tentacles acted like conduits, rapidly absorbing the torn-out Kagune and integrating them into his constantly writhing crimson slime.

Among them, the Kagune of several Ukaku Ghouls received his special attention and were devoured most thoroughly.

Slaughter's massive body let out a satisfied growl.

As the energy from the large amount of Kagune was absorbed, the crimson slime on Slaughter's shoulder blades began to surge violently.

Plah!

A pair of gigantic, grotesque wings, formed from crimson slime and hard bone spikes, suddenly unfurled from Slaughter's back. They were covered in sharp bone spikes, resembling a demon's bat wings. The wings flapped fiercely, stirring up a gust of wind mixed with the smell of blood.

Slaughter felt the power brought by his new wings and let out an even more excited roar. His gaze swept across the battlefield, finally landing on the distant, dazed Kirishima Arata.

A thick crimson tentacle lashed out like a whip, accurately coiling around Kirishima Arata's waist and roughly lifting him from the ground.

"Ugh!" Kirishima Arata grunted uncontrollably, his eyes still filled with worry.

Slaughter's massive body crouched slightly, his newly formed bone wings spread to their maximum extent, then powerfully flapped downwards.

Boom!!!

A violent blast of air erupted from Slaughter's center, cracking the ground. His massive crimson body, gripping Kirishima Arata as if he were cargo, shot into the sky with terrifying might and a piercing whoosh. He was like a blood-red meteor, rapidly pursuing the One-Eyed Owl towards the massive breach he had left.

The lower-level battlefield was a mess, and surviving Search Officers like Shinohara Yukinori looked up at the breach, filled with a sense of helplessness.

...

Slaughter flapped his newly formed wings, carrying Kirishima Arata, and rapidly shot out of the huge breach at the top level of Kukulia.

The cold night wind, mixed with gunpowder and the smell of blood, rushed towards him. Below lay the Kukulia complex, plunged into chaos and fire.

His pale eyes scanned every corner of the night sky, his powerful senses spreading out, catching the lingering smell of blood in the air, and the One-Eyed Owl's unique aura.

However... nothing!

Under the night sky, apart from the clamor of Kukulia below and the scattered lights of the distant city, there was only dead silence.

The One-Eyed Owl's massive figure had vanished as if into thin air, leaving no strong traceable marks.

"Roar—!!!"

Slaughter let out a furious roar, the sound waves spreading through the night sky, causing the glass of the buildings below to hum. His massive body hovered in mid-air, the air currents generated by his flapping bone wings like a small storm.

"...Gone?..." Slaughter's consciousness churned with furious rage, "...Sly bug...transformed...into...a weaker form...and hid..."

Slaughter's anger intensified.

He abruptly turned towards the main Kukulia building, where alarms shrieked, his eyes filled with a nearly tangible brutality. He abandoned the futile pursuit, his massive body sharply turning in the air, bone wings rapidly retracting, and plummeted back down towards the massive breach torn open by the One-Eyed Owl at the top level of Kukulia.

Rumble!!!

Slaughter's massive body crashed heavily into the area near the breach on Kukulia's top level. The terrifying impact created a deep crater in the metal floor, and spiderweb-like cracks instantly spread out.

He released his tentacles, tossing the pale-faced Kirishima Arata aside. At this moment, his attention was completely consumed by the desire for Slaughter.

Slaughter took heavy steps, charging towards the temporary central control room, where the personnel were most concentrated within the building.

...

Kukulia, Temporary Central Control Room

"He... He's back! That red monster! He's coming down from the breach! He's coming this way!!" The monitor operator screamed in despair, watching the rapidly enlarging crimson giant on the screen.

Deputy Warden's face was ashen, his lips trembling, and his glasses hung crookedly on his face. On the screen, Slaughter's massive body was plowing through thick metal isolation doors along his path like a bulldozer, and solid walls crumbled before him like paper.

Any guards attempting to block him, as well as Bronze Tree Ghouls who had not yet evacuated, were instantly torn apart by his sharp claws or impaled by crimson tentacles, seemingly without distinguishing friend from foe.

"Hold! Hold the door! Call for backup! Quickly call for backup!" Deputy Warden shrieked hysterically, futilely ordering the equally terrified staff around him, as they desperately braced the heavy alloy door with tables, chairs, and their own bodies.

However, any resistance was futile against Slaughter's absolute power.

Boom—!!!!

The specially reinforced alloy door of the temporary central control room, as if struck head-on by a battering ram, instantly twisted inward and caved in. Metal fragments shot into the room like cannon fire.

Slaughter's body, covered in crimson slime, squeezed through the doorframe, blocking the entire entrance. His pale eyes swept across the room, taking in every human frozen in place by fear.

"Mon... monster..." Deputy Warden slumped in his chair, his teeth chattering, unable to even muster the strength to flee.

Slaughter gave them no time to beg or resist.

Bang! Crunch—!

Two staff members closest to the door didn't even have time to scream before their upper bodies exploded as if run over by a heavy truck. Shattered organs and flesh splattered onto the control panel and walls, and the immense force slammed their remains into a distant equipment rack, producing a heavy thud.

Slaughter did not stop. His left claw shot out, five fingers like five enormous steel hooks, accurately grabbing a technician attempting to hide behind a desk.

The technician let out a heartbreaking wail.

Pfft!

Slaughter's massive claw suddenly closed, and the technician's body, as if squeezed by a hydraulic press, instantly became a blurred mixture of blood and flesh, with blood and shattered organs spurting from between the giant claw's fingers.

This was not all. The crimson slime on Slaughter's right arm surged violently, and the slime covering his claw hardened and extended.

In an instant, his massive right claw transformed into a gigantic blade over three meters long, its edge gleaming with a chilling, heart-stopping light.

The enormous crimson claw-blade, like the Grim Reaper's scythe, violently slashed downwards towards the remaining few staff members huddled in the corner.

Rip—!!!

A horrifying, ear-splitting sound. Where the claw-blade passed, human bodies, metal control panels... everything was cut through without resistance, blood mixing with machine parts spurting out.

Several staff members were diagonally sliced in half, their upper bodies sliding off while their lower bodies remained standing, blood gushing from the wounds.

In mere seconds, there was not a single survivor left in the temporary central control room, only sparking, broken equipment and the futile wailing of alarms.
