Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Provocation and Power Shift

When Zenin Mirai learned the truth about his mother's death...

In that moment, a fierce desire awakened within him, one that longed to destroy everything, to escape everything.

And it was that desire which triggered the awakening of his Mangekyō Sharingan.

The powers granted by his Mangekyō were clear:

Kamui Phasing, which allowed him to ignore any offensive technique by slipping through space.

Kamui Obliteration, which shattered all defenses by tearing space apart.

Back then, when Zenin Toji's blade, coated in cursed energy, had struck him, it hadn't missed. Mirai had simply used phasing to let the attack pass through him.

And that eerie, instant death of Zenin Shinro? That was the effect of Kamui Obliteration, a spatial technique with devastating force.

The Mangekyō Sharingan he possessed was identical to the one used by Obito in Naruto, but with one critical difference.

Its evolution and power didn't rely on chakra, but on this world's cursed energy.

And Mirai never had to worry about overusing his Mangekyō, nor did he face the risk of going blind.

The cursed energy he constantly absorbed replenished his ocular power and even allowed the eyes to grow stronger over time.

All this knowledge about the abilities and risks had surfaced in his mind naturally the moment his eyes awakened.

That same awakening also helped him understand the real reason his cursed energy had been so weak at birth.

It wasn't just his eyes.

Hidden within the Kamui Dimension were two artifacts, and they were the true culprits.

The first was the Gedo Statue, which upon entering this world, had been reshaped by its laws and transformed into a Cursed Spirit.

The second was the Uchiha Fan, a legendary cursed tool capable of reflecting cursed energy attacks.

Before Mirai awakened the Sharingan, these two items had been sealed within the Kamui Dimension, unconsciously absorbing cursed energy from their surroundings.

Once his eyes opened, he finally gained control over that space, and with the Sharingan as the medium, the cursed energy absorbed by the Gedo Statue was now at his command.

It was no surprise that the Ten Shadows Technique also awakened naturally once his reserves overflowed.

...

He slid open a wooden door, laid a pillow down in the corridor, and lay on his back, gazing up at the faint stars overhead.

The intimidation he felt from the Gedo Statue earlier... was new.

It was only in its initial stage of awakening, yet it already exuded the presence of a Special Grade Cursed Spirit.

He had awakened his powers at the age of six. It had taken him four years to adapt to the explosive growth and to subdue the nine Shikigami of the Ten Shadows Technique.

And just last night, after finally gaining control of the Gedo Statue, he had launched this entire chain of "greetings."

When Mirai first arrived in this world, he had planned to lie low at Jujutsu High, relying on the main cast to survive until the end.

But after everything he had endured within the Zenin Clan, he learned one undeniable truth:

Relying on others will never be as dependable as relying on yourself.

Even someone as powerful as Gojo Satoru had ended up mocked as "2.5 Gojo."

If he wanted to become the strongest...

Why not just become it himself?

...

The Next Morning

A low-ranking member of the Kukuru Unit stood nervously, staring at the boy lying in the hallway.

He swallowed hard and whispered, "Sir... Sir Mirai... Please wake up. The clan head and others are waiting in the conference room."

Mirai opened his eyes, glanced at the timid man standing at a safe distance, and spoke coldly:

"Let them wait."

Without another word, he stood and leisurely walked back to his room to wash and get dressed.

...

Ten minutes later

He passed through the long corridor. The wreckage and corpses from last night had already been cleared.

Even the metallic stench of blood had been thoroughly purified. There was no trace of the massacre that had taken place just hours earlier.

Servants, sorcerers, and other clan members he passed on the way all made way for him, their expressions filled with fear and awe.

The memory of what had happened was still fresh in their minds.

...

In the massive conference hall, only two members of the Zenin Clan's upper echelon were present.

There should have been three, but one had already "moved out" permanently the night before.

Clan head Naobito leaned against the table, guzzling liquor from a gourd. Beside him sat a burly man with a thick beard and a restless expression.

His wild black hair stood up like a hedgehog, and a jagged cross-shaped scar ran down the center of his forehead, giving him a dangerous, untamed look.

This was Zenin Shinichi, the man in charge of all the clan's external operations and intelligence networks.

He was also a powerful Grade 1 Sorcerer.

When he saw Mirai approach, Naobito's expression turned momentarily distant.

The boy now wore clean white robes, his face youthful and striking. Compared to the blood-soaked demon from the night before, he was almost unrecognizable.

As for Shinichi, he had not been home last night. He had missed the entire incident.

Even with Naobito's detailed account, he still found it hard to believe that this small boy before him had publicly slaughtered another Grade 1 Sorcerer like Zenin Toji.

Watching the boy's calm approach, Shinichi narrowed his eyes, letting out a surge of cursed energy, testing him with a seven-tenths suspicion, three-tenths hostility.

If this was really the one from last night... he would know soon enough.

He unleashed the invisible pressure unique to Grade 1 Sorcerers.

It fell over Mirai like a tidal wave.

Mirai's footsteps stopped, and the corners of his mouth rose slightly.

So, last night's little demonstration hadn't been enough after all.

His black pupils instantly turned crimson.

"Shinichi!!"

Naobito's heart sank as he felt the cursed energy erupt beside him.

In less than a second, he surged forward, wrapped his arms around Shinichi's waist, and slammed them both out of the room.

Shinichi heard a sonic boom and the splintering of wood as they crashed through the door.

He caught a glimpse of the white vapor twisting in the air and countless shards of wood fluttering like snow.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?!"

Still dazed, Shinichi found himself sitting on the cement floor as Naobito roared beside him.

"Mirai, forgive this old fool. He just returned last night and didn't know any better."

Naobito turned back toward the conference room and spoke in a hurry.

Mirai, despite being only ten, stood at about 160 centimeters, tall for his age, but still not enough to tower over adults.

Yet standing in the corridor, his gaze was level with Naobito, and he looked down at Shinichi, who was still sprawled on the floor in disbelief.

Those blood-red eyes locked onto him, and a chill crept into Shinichi's heart. He shivered without meaning to.

Mirai held his gaze a moment longer, then shifted his attention back to Naobito.

"I'll let this one go for your sake. But if another idiot tries me, I won't hold back."

After all, the clan had already lost enough in last night's purge.

If he eliminated Shinichi, essentially the external enforcer, the Zenin Clan would lose an important tool.

With that in mind, he decided to let the man live... for now.

Naobito gave a small nod, though there was an undeniable bitterness in his heart.

Being clan head like this... was honestly exhausting.

"All the Zenin high council is present, so what exactly did you want to announce?" Naobito asked directly.

"You should step down," Mirai said flatly. "The position of clan head suits me better."

Shinichi, who had just gotten to his feet, froze mid-motion, staring in disbelief at the boy in the hallway.

This kid...

He was even more direct than his damned father!

Even Naobito twitched at the corner of his mouth, momentarily at a loss for words.

Especially when he looked into those serious eyes.

He had a very strong feeling...

If he said no, he might actually die.
