He had known that after defeating the other Pains, the battle would eventually escalate into this situation.
Each of these Pains was controlled by a single individual's chakra, so controlling just one would maximize their power.
Moreover, with such a concentration of chakra, he must be about to unleash some powerful technique.
His opponent possessed the legendary Rinnegan, and Itachi never dared to underestimate him.
