The depth of the water was pulling her in.
Her breath caught in her throat, her chest burning. Panicked, she opened her eyes and flailed her arms and legs to rise to the surface, but the harder she tried to swim up, the deeper she seemed to sink. The horrifying echo of water filled her ears, her heart pounding as if it would burst. She made one last desperate attempt to look up… and then everything went dark.
When she regained consciousness, she found herself cradled in strong arms.
"Mihi… wake up… can you hear me? How long are you going to sleep… come on, we need to go home, Princess," a boy's voice said, tinged with worry.
Alongside it, a mischievous voice chimed in, "Vivaan, just carry the Princess in your arms already."
Mihika slowly opened her eyes. At first, everything was blurred, like she was seeing through a fog. As her eyelids fluttered, the image slowly sharpened. A face appeared before her… a face that immediately brought tears to her eyes. Without thinking, she sat up and hugged him tightly.
Vivaan's face showed a mixture of concern and relief.
"What happened, Princess? Please stop crying… Look, if I said something wrong, I'm sorry. Don't leave the house in a fit of anger. Whatever you say, I'll accept… I won't tell Naina either."
Mihika nodded slightly, but didn't reply. Her attention wandered to the surroundings. Before her stretched a massive waterfall. It seemed like the heart of the mountain, its pulse cascading down as a stream of water.
Sunlight struck the falling water, forming a faint rainbow. Droplets sparkled like tiny pearls in the air. The sound of the waterfall… distant, it was like a lullaby; up close, it felt like a sweet melody.
Beneath the waterfall lay a small Veraline pool. The falling water rippled across it, merging gradually into the lake below. On the shore, a canvas and a folding chair were set up—like some artist had come here to capture nature. This was Elvoris Waterfall.
Mihika pulled out her phone from her pocket, and froze as she glanced at the screen.
The date—four years ago.
A flood of questions surged in her mind. Was this a dream? Or was it real? If it was real… had Mahadev truly given her a second chance? Was this her rebirth, a chance to correct her mistakes and take revenge on those who had endangered her life?
A cold fire ignited within her.
"If this is my second chance… I won't waste it," she whispered to herself. "I will avenge my death, and this time, I won't back down from any fear."
Divyan came over, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"What's wrong, Princess? Lost in thought? Please forgive your brother. We've both been going crazy; you've been missing for a week."
Mihika remembered—she had come here for work. Naina had lied, saying she had run away from home because Vivaan had blocked her credit card.
"Calm down, both of you," Mihika said, holding Divyan's hand. "Why would I leave home? I went to Lumoria for work… came back, and ended up here by the waterfall. I informed Chachi too."
Relief returned to Vivaan's face. "So, you didn't leave home!"
"Oh, why would I… I just must have dozed off," Mihika said with a light laugh.
Divyan smiled. "Alright, let's go then. And next time, tell us wherever you're going before going anywhere, along with Chachi."
Mihika shot them a mischievous look.
"We'll go… but not without a little fun, right? Now that we're here, let's enjoy it."
With that, she scooped up a handful of water from the lake and splashed it at both of them.
"Princess, wait… we'll tell you now!" Vivaan laughed, splashing back.
Before long, all three of them were in the water—sometimes Mihika and Divyan soaking Vivaan, sometimes Vivaan and Mihika targeting Divyan.
Water splashes, laughter, and soaked clothes… everything else seemed to stop.
