Chapter 10 - 10 How it begins (4)

She turned her head to looked over her shoulder at the nurse who was talking to her.

A small nurse in purple scrubs was standing on the tips of her shoes, tapping at her shoulder for her attention.

Standing outside of the Emergency Room entrance, not sure where to go, she stood still frightened by everything. The nurse, the room, this hospital, the color purple, the reason she was here, the events that had led up to this moment, everything came crashing into her. Internally constricting her organs and driving her nerves haywire, till she threw up all over that pristine white floor.

The purple nurse looked at her and sighed as if her existence physical hurt the nurse, "Ma'am, if you were not feeling well, why didn't you tell me. Come. Come. Sit down over here to get yourself checked in."

Azalea shook her head in a desperate attempt to keep the nurse away, "Please leave me alone, I just came here to see my brother."

The nurse grabbed her arm to steer her away, and she tore her arm away clutching it to her chest as if to protect herself from the nurse.

"Are you going to come willingly or will I need to force you?"

She shuffled back, away from the nurse, reaching behind her for the door to quickly flee away into the hallway leading to the Emergency room.

"I have to see my brother, and you are scary."

The nurses smile dropped and she thought she saw something dark flash behind the nurse's eyes. It brought forward a feeling, a turning point, this was an opportunity for something but the reality of it could not be pieced together.

"I am going to go see my brother now," Azalea had finally reached the door, pushing the door open, she ran through it.

Turning her head behind her, she saw the purple nurse chasing after her.

"Someone call security," the purple nurse screeched, "We have a code white in the Emergency Room."

Continued running forgetting the reason why she was here, the nurse was relentless, never letting her go out of sight. The door to the emergency room area was right in front of her, forcing herself through the door, she turned her head to look back.

Not paying attention to what was in front of her, Azalea ran full force into a wall.

The hard impact caused her to stumble as she recovered her balance, a sturdy hand encompassed for wrist not allowing her to get away. Looking to face the wall, she realized the wall was a person. They were the security called to the scene, the ones the nurse had been screaming for.

Azalea was dragged away to face more security guards, and police officers. She was handcuffed and thrown into the back seat of a police car.

She remained silent with her head down staring at her feet. The police officers driving in the front looked at her in the rearview mirror, concerned for how lifeless and defeated she looked.

After the car stopped she made no moves to leave the car, so the officers ha to open the door and grab her by the elbow to take her out.

Pulling her up the stairs to the police station, she was forced trough the glass doors into a detention cell.

"Call your guardian down to the station," a fat police officer said in aa cold voice as he sat down in the chair.

"I don't have any," Azalea spoke quietly, "How is my brother? The hospital called me to come and identify him. I haven't even been able to see him."

The police officer frowned, making him look like a bearded walrus, "Explain that for me, please. The hospital nurse told us differently."

Azalea pulled her phone and showed the number that had called her earlier, "H-here, you can call them. My brother's name is Thaen Bergen," pushing the phone towards the officer.

The police officer took her phone and left the room, she could hear many voices coming from outside the room, arguing from the sound of it.

She spent half the day in the cell as the hospital director was called and notified off what had happened.

The nurse was reprimanded and punished, all the while she sat in the cell unaware, feeling forgotten.

The police officers let her go free due to the misunderstanding and drove her back to the hospital to help her check in to see her brother.

The hospital not wanting to be sued, offered to pay for her brother's surgery and aftercare for that month. She understood that she could have taken more from the hospital, but she didn't even have the money to pay for anything for him. She was going to have to get a job when she started college, maybe sell the house or something.

Leaving the hospital after the ordeal took an emotional toll on her, the stares as she walked around were unrelenting.

Azalea woke up to the sound of her alarm clock, she really needed to change her alarm.

She climbed out of bed, looking like a zombie. Her disheveled hair everywhere sticking to her drool.

Taking a quick shower, before putting on new clothes, she finished getting ready for her classes. Before putting her bag on she went through her bag, double checking she had everything, and her assignments were completed.

Turing to the door to leave, she remembered the night previous and the ominous feeling of death aimed at her, she grabbed the mask and shoved it in her bag and left the room.
