Cherreads

Chapter 5 - 5

The next morning, after Sherman woke up and got ready for school before heading downstairs for breakfast. As he sat at the table, Mr. Peabody handed him a plate of eggs, bacon and grits before sitting beside him with his own plate.

"Sleep well?" Mr. Peabody asked before taking a fork full of eggs to his mouth.

Sherman nodded as his mouth was full.

"Good-" *swallows* "-so, what's the plan for today after school?"

"I was hoping," Sherman began after swallowing some bacon, "we'd pay Mrs. Siegel a visit."

"Why's that?"

"Just to see the look on her face when she sees you again."

They had a brief chuckle before finishing their breakfast and heading to the elevator. Once they got to the garage, they hopped on the motorbike and fastened their helmets before Mr. Peabody started the engine. They then rode out of the garage and onward to the entrance to the school.

"Have a good day at school, Sherman," Mr. Peabody said, "I love you."

"I love you too, Dad," Sherman said as they fist bumped.

Sherman then raced inside and walked down the halls to Ms. Betty's class. As he entered, the room went dead silent with everyone giving him a blank stare.

"Sorry you all got detention," he said.

"Apology not accepted," one kid said.

Sherman looked down as he took his seat and took out his assignment. Shortly after he took his seat, Ms. Betty walked in and took her seat before taking attendance.

"Sherman," she said after taking attendance, "did you finish your assignment?"

"Yes, ma'am," he said, handing her his paper.

"Thank you."

As Sherman sat back at his desk, there was a small knock on the door before it creeked open. Everyone turned and gawked as a girl with pitch black hair, hazel eyes, and a pink flower backpack walked in.

"Hello," she said, timidly as she closed the door behind her, "is this Ms. Betty's class?"

"It is indeed," Ms. Betty said walking up to the little girl.

She asked the girl to introduce herself to the class as she guided her in front of the chalk board.

"My name is," she began nervously, "Galilani Amber Smith."

"Hi Galilani," the class said.

"Class," Ms. Betty began, "Galilani is new, so make her feel welcomed-" *to Galilani* "-Why don't you sit right next to Sherman?"

Ms. Betty pointed Galilani to her seat as she sat beside Sherman. Ms. Betty then started the lesson as Sherman extended his hand to Galilani.

"Hi," Sherman whispered to her.

"Hi," she said, nervously shaking his hand.

"I like your name."

"Thanks, it's Cherokee. It means friendly."

"I think it's very pretty."

"Thank you, Sherman."

She blushed as he flashed a smile at her.
