Chapter 143 - Chapter 116: Mutual Bond Tension(Part C)

Andy collapsed back onto the sheets, chest heaving as though every ounce of fire and water within him had been wrung out. His arm never loosened from around Nia's waist, his hand still trembling faintly as if afraid to let go. The cabin was hot, not just from their bodies but from the weight of everything they had poured into one another.

Nia, flushed and glowing in the dim lamplight, traced a fingertip over his jaw, her nails faintly biting into skin that still thrummed with heat. She leaned closer, lips brushing his ear, voice a murmur soft enough to be drowned by the creak of the ship. "Andy… still mine?"

He let out a low, rough laugh, pressing his forehead to hers. "Always yours." His breath shook as if the words themselves tethered him.

The system stirred at the edge of their senses, a faint shimmer of runes across the air.

The glow bled into their hearts like a second pulse. Andy kissed her temple reverently, whispering, "Closer than ever."

Nia smiled, weary yet radiant, burying her face into the curve of his neck. Her sapphire eyes flickered with both relief and playful triumph. "Good. Because I don't intend to let you rest just yet."

He chuckled again, the sound muffled against her hair. For a long moment, the world outside didn't exist—just the heat of their bodies, the lull of waves, and the golden threads of their bond that shimmered faintly against the wooden beams above.

But there was someone else in the room.

Aurelia lay on the other side of Andy, her back to them, lashes pressed tight against her cheeks. Every whispered endearment, every moan half-swallowed into the air had reached her, wrapping around her like invisible chains. Her body was rigid at first, fighting the rise and fall of her own breath.

Why am I trembling? Why does it hurt… and yet burn so sweet?

A tiny sound escaped her throat—barely a sigh, barely human—but enough to make her bury her face deeper into the pillow, heart hammering wildly. She clenched the sheets, fingers curling tight until her knuckles paled. The warmth in her belly surged traitorously, heat spreading down her limbs no matter how she fought it.

Her mind spun: Not mine. Not yet. But… could it be?

Andy's voice cut through the haze, low and husky against Nia's lips: "You break every limit I have."

Nia giggled softly, the sound like bells in moonlight. She pressed another kiss to him, gentle this time, a caress of lips that spoke of certainty rather than fire. "Then let me keep breaking them."

The sound slipped into Aurelia's bones like a dagger and balm in one. She stifled another breath, this one sharper, and disguised it with a restless shift in the sheets. Her golden hair clung damply to her cheek, stray strands tracing down her neck.

The system whispered again, faint but clear:

Andy didn't notice; his focus was wholly on Nia. But Aurelia did. The words hammered in her skull like a cruel reminder, and yet… it wasn't cruelty alone. It was a promise. It was proof that what tied them could reach her, too, even if she hadn't been invited in.

Her thighs pressed together involuntarily, her chest rising and falling faster with every muffled gasp that escaped despite her will. She bit down hard on her lip, tasting copper. Her body was alive, betraying her with every trembling exhale.

Not jealousy. Not anymore. It's something else…

She forced her eyes open a sliver, just enough to glimpse the glow on Andy's skin as he cradled Nia close. His silver hair clung to his forehead, his body slick with sweat, every muscle still taut with exhaustion yet softened only for the woman in his arms.

Aurelia swallowed hard, throat tight, and closed her eyes again before her treacherous gaze could linger. A quiet whimper almost slipped free—but she smothered it into the pillow, shaking faintly under the weight of everything she felt.

Her thoughts blurred: One day. One day, I won't just lie here, listening. One day, I'll be part of that glow.

Andy brushed a final kiss against Nia's lips, whispering against her breath. "Sleep, love. I'll keep you safe."

Nia giggled faintly, half-dreaming already, her voice a soft hum. "You better." She nuzzled into him, sighing with the satisfaction of someone who had given everything and received the world in return.

Andy's arm tightened protectively around her waist, pulling her close as if she were the only anchor he'd ever need. The threads of their bond flickered gently, golden and steady.

Aurelia, heart aching, finally let her lashes fall fully. She exhaled shakily, her body loosening against the mattress, though the flush across her cheeks betrayed the storm within. Her lips parted, a faint sound escaping before she bit it back.

She thought, bitter and sweet all at once: Not yet… but soon.

And so, in that dim cabin where three hearts beat unevenly, silence stretched. But it was not peaceful silence. It was heat, tension, and the unspoken promise that bonds—whether chosen or inevitable—were already weaving themselves tighter.

The cabin breathed with silence, save for the muted rhythm of the waves rocking the ship. Morning light spilled through the thin cracks of the shuttered window, soft and golden, painting the wooden beams with warmth that contrasted the night's fevered storm.

Andy stirred first. His body ached in that pleasant, bone-deep way of someone who had been drained and filled all over again. Nia was still draped against his chest, her auburn hair tangled across his skin like threads of fire spun from the sun itself. Her breathing was slow, steady, each exhale feathering warmth against him.

He brushed a hand through her hair gently, smiling faintly at the memory of her whispers, her laughter, her determination to claim him over and over again. "You never let me rest," he murmured under his breath.

Nia stirred at the sound, eyelids fluttering open. Sapphire eyes blinked sleepily up at him, but the curve of her lips gave her away—she was already awake enough to be amused. "And you never complained," she whispered back, voice hoarse with the remnants of their night.

He chuckled softly, leaning down to kiss her forehead. "Never."

The system stirred faintly in the air, like a ripple across their joined souls.

The glow settled quickly, faint enough not to disturb, but enough to remind them both that even sleep hadn't broken their link.

But Andy wasn't the only one awake.

On his other side, Aurelia lay on her back, golden hair spilling over the pillow like a halo tarnished by shadows of longing. Her eyes were half open, staring at the wooden ceiling beams, but her lips were curved in a faint, wry smile.

She had not slept easily. How could she, with every sound echoing inside her chest like a drum? Yet here she was, calm on the surface, even graceful, though her fingers twitched faintly where they rested on the sheets.

Andy turned, startled to find her gaze already on him. Their eyes locked for a moment. Her smile widened just slightly, soft but edged with something deeper—something unspoken.

"Morning," she said lightly, as though she hadn't just lived through the same storm of heat by proximity.

Andy cleared his throat, awkwardness pressing faintly at the edges of his composure. But Nia, still pressed against him, was quicker. She rolled onto her side, her hair spilling across his chest as she met Aurelia's eyes head-on.

"You didn't sleep well," Nia observed, her voice quiet but pointed.

Aurelia tilted her head, unbothered. "Did you expect me to? With all the noise?"

The jab was subtle, but the sparkle in her eyes gave away her teasing.

Andy groaned softly, covering his face with one hand. "You both—please…"

But Nia smirked, propping herself up on an elbow. "He's mine, you know. No matter what you thought you heard."

Aurelia didn't flinch. Instead, she chuckled softly, turning her face toward the morning light, her voice smooth as silk. "I know. I respect it." Her gaze shifted back, sharp yet wistful. "But that doesn't mean I'll stop wanting what you have."

Nia froze for a heartbeat, caught between surprise and irritation. Then, slowly, her lips curved into something almost like acceptance. She lay back down, nestling against Andy's chest once more, her fingers lacing with his. "Then try, Aurelia. See if you can keep up."

The silence that followed wasn't hostile—it was electric, charged, the kind of silence that could ignite into rivalry or into something else entirely.

Andy exhaled, half amused, half resigned, wrapping both arms tighter around Nia but casting Aurelia a glance that said he'd heard her, too.

The system pulsed faintly again, almost as if acknowledging the shift.

[Future Integration Pending.]

Andy narrowed his eyes slightly at the words. He didn't speak them aloud. For now, the secret of the system remained his alone.

Nia kissed his chest softly, grounding him back. Aurelia turned her face toward the light, her thoughts her own.

Andy sat at the edge of the bed now, Draconic Oathblade across his lap, its surface gleaming faintly with residual aura from last night's trial. He ran his fingers along the etched runes, as if touching the echoes of fire, water, and wind that still whispered through its blade.

Nia shifted beside him, pulling the sheet closer to cover herself, but her sapphire eyes stayed fixed on Andy. She was softer in this light, though her voice carried the same unwavering pride. "You looked like you carried the weight of every flame and wave when you held that sword… but you still smiled at me."

Andy smiled faintly at that, turning his head. "I had to. If I didn't, the trial would have crushed me." His thumb brushed over her hand, lacing their fingers together. "You're my anchor, Nia."

The bond shimmered faintly in acknowledgment.

Before the glow could fade, Aurelia's voice cut softly from the other side. "He's more than your anchor now, isn't he?"

Andy turned. Aurelia leaned against the wall, arms crossed over the thin fabric of her nightgown, her golden hair catching the sunlight like a crown. She wasn't mocking—her tone was even, thoughtful, but her eyes carried something deeper, the kind of fire that couldn't be disguised as mere teasing.

Nia narrowed her gaze slightly. "And what do you mean by that?"

Aurelia didn't flinch. Instead, she pushed off the wall and took a step closer, her bare feet soundless on the wooden floor. "You're not the only one who saw him last night. I may not have been inside his trial, but I felt the weight of it too. The bond… it doesn't shut me out."

Nia straightened, lips parting—but Andy squeezed her hand before she could retort. He looked at Aurelia calmly, searching her face. "You felt it?"

Aurelia met his gaze without hesitation. "Enough to know that I can't stand on the outside forever. Enough to know that one day, Andy… whether you or Nia like it, I'll fight beside you, not just watch."

The air turned heavy again, but this time it wasn't sharp. It was… inevitable.

Nia held Andy's hand tighter, jaw set, but her eyes flicked over Aurelia's face, reading every flicker of honesty there. She could deny, she could mock—but instead, she exhaled softly, letting the sheet slip from her grip as if to say she wasn't afraid to be seen, not even by a rival.

"You talk big," Nia said finally, her lips curving with defiance. "But do you even understand what it means to share him?"

Aurelia smiled faintly. "Maybe not. But I know what it means to want him."

Andy swallowed hard, caught between their eyes—the fire and the gold, the sapphire and the sun—and for once, he had no words.

The system pulsed, faint, almost like it was watching.

[Potential Integration Detected.]

Andy clenched his jaw, hiding the glow from them both. Not yet, he told himself. Not yet.

The silence that followed wasn't peaceful, but it wasn't war either. It was balance—fragile, trembling, but real.

Andy finally stood, slipping the Oathblade back into its sheath. "Whatever comes," he said softly, looking at them both, "we'll face it together."

Nia pressed against his side, possessive but calm. Aurelia turned toward the light, her smile unreadable, but her eyes burned with quiet resolve.

And so the morning closed—not as lovers, not as enemies, but as something caught in between, something the world would soon force into shape.
