"We should go find your brothers."
Daphne nodded, letting him lead her without question.
They walked down the path the way Aidan and Finn had gone hand-in-hand. Neither of them spoke at first. The air between them felt different now, like something heavy had finally been set down.
Daphne glanced at their joined hands, then his face. He was looking ahead, focused, like he always did when he was thinking.
"What?" he asked, sensing her stare without turning.
She smiled to herself. "I'm just… happy," she said. "That we're back, like this."
That made him look at her. His expression softened in a way only she ever got to see. "So am I," he said.
They rounded the corner of the training ground and spotted Aidan and Finn a short distance away. Finn was swinging a practice blade lazily, clearly bored. Aidan was leaning against a post, arms folded, watching him with amusement.
Finn noticed them first. His eyes dropped immediately to their hands.
