Chapter 7 - Group study

It was a quiet, beautiful Sunday.

Yuji and Haruto had gone to Ishida's house for a group study session.

"Where's your sister?" Ishida asked, glancing around.

Yuji paused for a moment, as if picturing something.

"Brother, I want to play with Yukino…" Hina said, lying in her bed with tears in her eyes.

But he had only answered, "She needs to prepare for her exam. Next time..."

Yuji shook the memory away and finally replied,

"Ishida… she's in the house."

They sat cross-legged on the floor, books scattered between them.

Barely two minutes had passed before Haruto leaned forward, breaking the silence.

"Ishida, who's the father of mathematics?" he asked, his tone a mix of curiosity and mischief.

Ishida blinked at him.

Yuji looked away as he knew what Haruto was going to tell

"Archimedes," Ishida answered.

Haruto leaned closer. "Then who taught him math?"

Ishida blinked, completely caught off guard. "What kind of question is that, Haruto?"

Yuji let out a sigh, rubbing his forehead. "Don't encourage him, Ishida. If you give Haruto a chance, we'll never study. You know how he is."

Haruto just grinned, satisfied with the chaos he'd stirred.

"Yuji, first we need to differentiate—" Ishida began, pointing at the problem in front of them.

But before he could continue, Haruto suddenly raised his hand.

"I have a doubt!" he shouted.

"Don't believe him," Yuji warned quickly, narrowing his eyes.

Ignoring the advice, Ishida sighed and asked anyway, "Alright, what's your doubt?"

Haruto was completely serious. "Who created the calendar? If someone made the months, why did they put thirty and thirty-one days… and what kind of grudge did they have against February?"

Ishida just stared at him, speechless.

Yuji dropped his pen with a groan. "See? I told you."

"Haruto, please… just leave us alone. We need to study. Ask your doubts to the English ma'am instead," Ishida begged, almost on the verge of despair.

"Okay, okay, study, study," Haruto replied, waving his hands in surrender.

But inside his head, he muttered to himself: *I'm so bored. How can they sit here with these books? I need to play. Alright… here comes my final try.*

His eyes glinted with mischief as he prepared his next move.

Haruto shook his pen against the notebook, pretending it was a microphone. His voice came out low and dramatic.

"I… I can't breathe… you left me…"

Yuji clenched his jaw and tried to block him out.

Haruto's song growing louder.

"Your life is in my hand,

Take the knife until I land…

Hmm, chikku-chikku… takk-takk…"

Yuji's pen snapped against the page. He couldn't hold it anymore.

"I'll kill you until you wish you were dead!" he exploded.

Haruto's grin spread ear to ear. "Come on, Yuji! Finally!"

He jumped to his feet, spreading his arms like some dark overlord.

"You can't kill me. I'm the demon! I'm the Lord! I created the world!"

Ishida buried his face in his notes, whispering to himself like a broken man. "Why… why did I agree to group study…"

Haruto snatched Ishida's water bottle, holding it like a microphone.

"La laaa laaaaaa!

I want to die

This world is cruel"

Yuji walked around him with heavy, tragic steps, his voice low and serious.

"Even... Death is peace in this world

I saw a dream I decided not to wake up

I looked at the ceiling

Then realized that

To suffer I need to live, to die I need to suffer"

Ishida buried his face in his notes.

"These idiots… Sakura, please save me. I actually need to study…"

Finally, Haruto succeeded in his plan.

"Sorry, Ishida… I don't have the mood to study. Let's play a game," Yuji said.

But Ishida shook his head firmly.

"I need to study."

Yuji looked at Haruto. Haruto looked back at him.

The next second, they both winked at each other

and together, they made sure Ishida wouldn't be able to study at all.

The room burst into laughter, echoing louder than any textbook page could ever turn. Even Ishida, the poor victim, was dragged into their nonsense. No, don't be fooled—he didn't join willingly. They forced him in.

And so, the legendary group study session ended in tragedy. Not a single question was solved. Not even one. Truly, Ishida's tears could write a whole exam paper on their own.

"Yuji! It's already seven!" Haruto shouted, eyes on the clock.

"Okay then, let's leave."

Both of them waved casually at Ishida.

"Bye-bye, Ishida!"

And just like that, they left.

Ishida stared at the clock, his eyes widening. Then he shook his head furiously.

"It's already seven?! How am I supposed to study math now?! That Haruto! That Yuji!" he shouted into the empty room.

Meanwhile, at Sakura's house—

"Ishida," she murmured while scribbling down equations, "even from here, I can clearly hear your cries. Those two idiots will never let you study."

With a small sigh, she continued practicing her sums, unbothered.

Together, Yuji, Haruto, and Ishida weren't a study group. They were a natural disaster.

Moral of the story? Never trust Yuji and Haruto if you actually want to study.

Yuji finished preparing dinner for himself and his sister. The small room filled with the sound of clinking dishes, their chatter, and bursts of laughter between bites. When they were done, Yuji washed the plates with the practiced speed of someone who'd done it a thousand times before, then collapsed onto his bed, phone in hand, scrolling mindlessly.

A notification blinked.

Yukino: Did you study for the exam?

Yuji froze.

"Oh, thank God," he muttered. "I completely forgot about that. If I don't study tonight, I'm done for." His thumbs flew.

Yuji: Thank God you reminded me. I need to cram tonight, or I'll fail. What about you?

On the other end, Yukino thought he was actually serious about studying, so she rushed to reply—her fingers moving faster than usual.

Yukino: I studied a little. Okay, bye. Prepare for the exam. Good night.

But the reply made her speechless

Yuji: I thought I am going to study all night, but it's already 10. So I'm going to sleep and study at tomorrow early morning bye good night.

Yeah, Yuji and Haruto, were proof that the human brain has a clown mode, and they'd permanently switched it on.

Yukino blinked at the message, she didn't have any idea about what to reply.

Yukino: Okay.
