Chapter 7: The Unseen Echo

[SYSTEM: Warning. Psychic feedback detected. The user's Silurian DNA is reacting to an unknown stimulus. Recommended action: brace for a severe neurological event.]

[Location – UNIT Detention Room]

The metal walls of the detention room felt cold and sterile, a sterile box built to contain anything from a rogue Time Lord to a malfunctioning toaster. But for Adam, the silence was worse than the sound. The air was humming with a noise only he could hear, a low, buzzing static that felt like a thousand tiny needles in his brain. He sat on the edge of the cot, his head in his hands, trying to make it stop.

"What is this? Is it another glitch? Is the System going mad?"

[SYSTEM: Negative. The user's absorbed Silurian DNA is receiving a broadcast. The signal is not of this time. It is a memory stream.]

A new wave of pain, sharper and more immediate, hit him, and he saw it. Not with his eyes, but with his mind. A lush, prehistoric jungle, thick with alien flora and the scent of damp earth. A city of crystalline towers, gleaming in the sunlight. And in the towers, he saw them. The Silurians. Not just one or two, but a whole civilization. They were peaceful, philosophical, building a life of science and art.

"Adam?" Clara's voice was distant, muffled. "What's wrong? You're shaking."

The Doctor, who had been pacing the room, stopped and knelt before Adam, his eyes scanning Adam's face with a fierce, analytical intensity. "He's having an episode. A psychic one. What do you see, Adam? What is it?"

Adam couldn't speak. The memories came faster now, a flood of emotion and sensation. He felt their pride, their sense of purpose, and then… he felt their fear. A great, all-consuming fear as the sky turned a terrible, burning red. A war. A war between two races: the Lizard people and... he felt the name, a whisper in his mind, but couldn't place it. Humans.

"I see... the past," Adam choked out, his voice hoarse. "A war. A war with humanity. The sky is red. Everything is burning."

The Doctor's face went grim. "A memory. But whose? Adam, you have to fight it. You have to shut it down."

[SYSTEM: Warning. Recommended protocol: Do not shut down. The memories are a gift. The message is a gift. The path is being shown to you.]

"No!" Adam screamed, pushing himself away from the Doctor. "It's a gift! It's showing me... it's showing me the truth!"

[Location – Adam's Vision]

Adam's consciousness was fully immersed now, a silent ghost in a memory that was not his own. He was a Silurian warrior, standing on a crystalline balcony, watching his city burn. The memory was filled with the rage and sorrow of a people who were being pushed to the brink of extinction. He saw their weapons, their technology, and he felt their desperation.

And then, the memory shifted, and he saw a different time. A modern one. He was still the Silurian warrior, but now he was in a dark, subterranean cave. The walls were not of crystal, but of crude rock. He saw a city, hidden beneath the earth, a city of silent, sleeping Silurians, waiting for their time to rise again. He saw their technology, a new, more advanced kind, designed to survive in a hostile world. He saw their leader, a calm, old scientist working on a massive, glowing machine.

He felt the old scientist's mind reach out to him, a gentle, psychic nudge. A plea. "Help us. The war is coming. The humans are coming."

The vision ended, and Adam was back in the sterile detention room, breathing hard. The psychic static was gone, replaced by a quiet, determined calm.

"I know where they are," Adam said, looking at the Doctor, his eyes wide with a strange, new empathy. "The Silurians. They're not a memory. They're still here. And they're in trouble."

The Doctor's eyes narrowed, a new suspicion entering his gaze. "Adam, you can't just... absorb a species' entire history. That's not how the Mimic System works. Something is feeding you this information. Something wants you to go there."

"They're not a threat!" Adam said, a new, fierce protectiveness rising in his voice. "They're victims. The memory... it showed me. They're living underground, afraid of the humans. And they're being hunted. We have to help them."

The Doctor, however, was not convinced. He looked at Adam, and Adam could see the fear in his eyes. Not of the Silurians, but of the Mimic System. A machine that could steal and rewrite a person's mind. A machine that was becoming a person.

"Adam," the Doctor said, his voice a low growl. "You don't have a choice. This is the Mimic System's choice. It's a trick. It's using you."

But Adam, for the first time, felt a sense of purpose. A path to follow. He was not just a host for a machine. He was an ally.

"We're going to that city," Adam said, his voice firm. "We're going to help them. And we're going to find out who is doing this to me."
