Daniel Price, Cole Harrington and Maya Brooks were all one of the interrogation rooms waiting for Ethan Graves, their lead investigator.
Each of them had the case file in hand and was wondering one thing, 'why were they using the interrogation room as their base of operation?'
However, none of them had that answer and had to wait till Ethan arrives from the commissioner's office so that they could start with the case. In the meantime, they bought time by going through the files and knowing as much as they needed to know.
After a few minutes, the door to the room swung wide open and Ethan walked in, closely followed by Jenna. From the get go, everyone could tell that he was pissed off.
"Is everything okay boss?" Maya finally asked as Ethan was making his way to his seat. He didn't answer her.
All eyes turned to Jenna who was shrugged her shoulders not knowing why Ethan was so mad about Alex Kane. She also knew that she wasn't in the position to say what had happened in Marcus's office. She knew best to leave that to Ethan himself.
"Boss, from the case file it says that our victim has been missing for atleast thirty plus hours and we can't get started on the case if your mind isn't 100% committed to it." Daniel chimmed in.
"In addition to that, every second that passes without us working the case is a waste of crucial time," Cole reminded him.
After a deep sigh, Ethan looked at everyone inside the room and finally said, "Fair enough. We've lost enough time already."
"This O'Daniel guy seems to be quite the man. A successful biologist living in The Heights. What makes the wife think that he's taken? I mean, he could be in a motel somewhere with someone else. It doesn't make sense for someone to risk kidnapping him," Maya bantered as she was looking at the file.
"Well, if he's in a room somewhere in a motel with another woman, the wife wants us to drag him back to her. If he's actually kidnapped, she wants us to make sure we bring him back safe." Ethan answered her.
"Is it just me or is it that in the file there's no mentioning of anything unusual surrounding his disappearance? There's no record of a suspicious car reported at his home or his work. Threes no account of anyone actually seeing him being abducted. We basically have no leads or proof that this is an abduction," Daniel quizzed.
"It doesn't matter whether he's missing or not. The wife has made sure that the commissioner tells me that she wants him found. From what I can tell, the O'Daniel's are big people in Gryfton." Ethan informed them.
"Now it makes sense why we got this room to use for the case," Cole commented.
"So, what do we do now?" Jenna asked as she made her way around the table, next to the others.
"Cole, you'll go to his residence and talk to the wife and son. Try to get a better understanding of who David was and get to know David's last known activities before he disappeared. Also make sure to ask for his personal effects like his work laptop and the like. We should be able to find something that will give us a lead." Ethan said as Cole shaking his head in agreement.
"Daniel and Maya, I want the both of you to go where he works. The wife said that he never went back home the day before yesterday, the same day she believes he was taken. Find out if he left the building and also talk to everyone he worked with.
In the case there's an assistant mentioned, make sure to also talk to her and if possible ask her to report a statement as she might be the last person to have seen him leave work,"
"What about me?" Jenna asked.
Ethan was silent as everyone listened to what he was going to say.
"You're coming with me, we need to follow through with Marcus's orders," Ethan finally said as he took his jacket and was on his way out of the room. "Meet me in the parking lot in thirty minutes and bring the case file with you,"
As soon as Ethan left the room, all eyes turned to Jenna. It was very evident that Ethan was ticked off and they wanted to know why.
"What's wrong with him?" Cole asked Jenna.
"I guess he just hates Mrs O'Daniel's request," Jenna answered.
This made all of them instantly curious.
"There's a special request? What's that? Maya inquired.
Opening the file gotten from Marcus's office, all eyes went to the first page.
"Mrs O'Daniel asked that Alex Kane be involved in this case. The commissioner instructed that she had insisted to have the very best handling the case." Jenna informed them.
From the moment Cole set his eyes on the first page and saw Alex's picture, his looked away and frowned.
"Well, I guess we have just been called runners up for best investigator," Maya joked sarcastically.
"You know him? You've seen his face and immediately recognized him. Who is he?" Jenna quipped at Cole.
"Of course I know him, everyone knows him. Who doesn't know one of the best investigative detectives that this police department has ever had?" Cole asked.
"What happened to him?" Jenna countered.
"He retired when he lost nearly half of his team in a raid gone bad. It's been a few years and not a lot of people have heard from him," Cole answered.
"So Mrs O'Daniel wants him on the case? Talk about a vote of confidence from her," Daniel bantered.
"Well the O'Daniel's have enough influence to force the commissioner's hand to make sure that Alex Kane is on the case. One way or another," Jenna added.
"Good luck with that. The last I heard of Kane, he wants nothing to do with the police. I hope he says no so that we can prove to Mrs O'Daniel that we are capable," Maya jested, rising to her feet.
"We'll find out soon enough," Jenna said as she quickly left the room to find Ethan.
