The stretcher arrived moments later, and they carefully lifted Jace onto it. Mrs Voss walked beside it, holding her son's hand, her mind swirling with worry and resentment. As they wheeled him out, Dr Patel lingered at the door.
Nathan's eyes locked onto him, cold and threatening.
"Don't ever use that injection on me again, Doctor. Or I'll kill you myself."
Dr Patel swallowed hard but stood his ground. "I did it for your own good, Nathan. If I hadn't, you'd have killed that boy. Think about the consequences."
Nathan burst into laughter. It sounded like a harsh and mocking sound that echoed off the walls. He leaned back against his pillows, wincing at the pull on his wound.
"Killed him? Oh, I know exactly what I was doing. That Jace guy... he's in love with Elias. I'm sure of it."
Dr Patel frowned, crossing his arms. "Why do you think that?"
Nathan's expression darkened, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper.
