Chapter 8 - Parting Gift

Let's reach 500 stones, for an extra chapter!

—-

Not gonna lie, here I thought it would be harder, but it's just an overestimation, this guy was weak. Barely any fight at all, not that I would give him any.

I raised my bloody metal bat from his headless corpse, the girls were looking at us, specifically me who killed their greatest nightmare, probably.

Then Agnes who suddenly spoke. "Let's burn his corpse, just in case he revives."

I turned back and stared at her. "Good idea, let's do it."

Neither of us were fools, one might think that we're simply paranoid or overly cautious but there's a 'what if?' he could revive?

Then we could prevent it from happening, if not then it's good, but just to be safe we'll burn the corpse.

Judging from her reaction, I'm guessing that they encountered an anomaly that could revive after being killed.

Just because it's died doesn't mean it's dead.

"But where do we get a flammable substance?"

"Don't worry I got this." Agnes pulled another vial from her mini pocket, at this point I believe that her pocket was enhanced with a spatial magic or something because I swear she pulled dozens of things there already.

That small pocket of hers, then I shifted my attention to the main cast of the original story, which all are female.

The guys had been killed off screen. I just knew it, then I asked. "Would you mind if we burn his corpse?"

My words somehow manage to make them snap out of it, and Rei who regained her bearings spat with the venomous voice that she could muster. "Burn it! Like fucking care about this monster's corpse!"

Soon, the others followed her lead, with the exception of Saeko who stayed silent.

Then after that burst of anger, followed by emotional cries of hurt, sadness, disgust, guilt, despair, pain all-in-one they let out the emotions that they've been bottling while in this anomaly's hands.

I have an inkling of what they experienced, but it better left unexplained as I don't want to ruin their image in my mind.

The only odd one out from the group is Saeko, did she perhaps enjoy her time with the transmigrator?

Then I shook my head, nah that's ridiculous. No woman would enjoy being with that guy, but something must have happened for her to be muted.

While I'm curious, I'm not going to dig deeper from her psychology as I'm not a therapist and neither am I trying to get into her pants.

All I can do right now is help them get to the survivor's shelter, Agnes and I made it within the past few days.

Agnes used one of her vials and immediately the corpse quickly burned, turning it into ashes, scattered across the wind.

At very least his ashes turned into carbon dioxide, very helpful to plants, his corpse is at least used for something good!

Then our group chat phone rang, alerting us that the mission was completed.

Seeing this confirmation, it was a relief knowing that we didn't kill the wrong guy or else it would be awkward.

Looking at the spot where an anomaly former corpse was placed, his weapons didn't melt from Agnes' chemical or could that thing inside the vial even be considered a chemical? As I never knew any combination of chemical that could burn a corpse that fast.

It's basically alchemy at this point.

The weapons must be made by special materials, because even the solid concrete below was completely melted due to heat, and right now the 'chemical' was still burning live underground, who knows when it will stop.

Then I did my best, taking out the guns underground using my metal bat and some pipe I grabbed near, I swear pipes are everywhere.

I used the two like a chopstick to grab the guns one by one, I didn't want to risk burning my hands by foolishly grabbing it directly.

After taking all the guns out, I touched the surface of the Scar-L for a bit to see if it's burning, thankful it didn't.

The person who owned this gun might be trash, but regardless it's useful, not to me of course I have no need of it.

Although I'll keep the pistol for myself since it's pocket friendly and I want to try shooting some.

Then I called for the girls. At first they were wary, not surprising considering they're still trying to cope, unless they're individuals with a survival instinct of a worm, then it's given that they're going to be wary of men, even if that man is their savior.

I didn't mind their distrustful looks, if I was in their shoes I'd be so much similar. "I know that you probably don't have a good impression of these guns, considering who is the previous owner of these things, regardless the apocalypse is still out there, and no one but yourselves is going to save you, that's why take these guns and use it for protection."

I reminded them that their battle is far from over, their world is fucked, certainly.

The looks on their faces was complicated, after going through hell, finally escaping. I once again reminded them that they only escaped a section of hell.

The girls each took a weapon of their own, believing that it was the last semblance of help that I'm going to give them, as it was very clear that I'm not going to carry them.

However, I wasn't going to throw them into the wolves just yet, I'm not letting them die meaninglessly after being rescued.

I took them to the survivor's shelter where several hundreds of uninfected humans thrive.

It shocked them, it was natural after all they thought that there was no longer a stronghold in this city, and only the military is well equipped to survive in this zombie outbreak.

But the proof is in front of them, there is still a sanctuary, a miracle that exists thanks to the inference of a two dimensional traveler.

Agnes, who was weirdly silent since I've talked to the main cast, I said. "You've been really quiet since you burned to an anomaly, anything I should know?"

"Hm? Is it that strange for me to be silent?"

"From the few days I know you? Yes, absolutely."

"Fufu, your impression of me must be that of a chatterbox eh?"

"Precisely, that's why it's odd that you remained silent on our way to the super mall."

Agnes shook her head and said. "Well, it's true that I talk a lot, usually but there are times that I'm gathering my thoughts and it just hits me, does this world even have a future?"

An interesting question, the story itself was incomplete, but if I were to be honest this world has no future.

It was a conclusion, in a scenario like this there is rarely a happy ending.

"Why? Do you want to save it?" I replied.

She shook her head and said, "No, I am fully aware of my own capabilities and saving this world is nign impossible, let's not mention that our time is limited here, even if I find a cure, it would be impossible to achieve it within a day."

That's right, right now we only have a day left before we return back to our respective world after completing our mission.

Of course there's also an option of returning immediately, but neither of us was in a hurry.

Thus for the rest of the day, we searched through the city for survivors with our remaining time.

We might as well save as many as we can, while we might not be able to save the world, at the very least we're saving people within our reach.

Neither of us have the delusion to save everyone, we even left those ungrateful ones dead, simply not worth saving.

And so, the last minute of our time in this world arrived.

There was no point looking for more survivors, at this point it was better to stay still and wait for the group chat to teleport us back to our respective worlds.

But before that, Agnes spoke. "You know, I wasn't really expecting much from meeting you, so I kept my expectations low."

"Ouch, that's harsh." I didn't expect this confession.

"It's the truth, but after interacting with you, talking to you and knowing you, I can stay that you're an interest person and personally I like you, unlike most individual they get overwhelmed by my lack of personal space, countless questions with no filter or whatsoever, but you didn't just tolerate me, but I'm confident that you actually enjoyed my company, which was a surprise, which part of me you enjoyed?" Agnes said while looking at me with her beautiful eyes.

I didn't even hesitate to answer. "Your beautiful face, your body and your intriguing personality, that simple."

Agnes was stunned at the unexpected reply and after that, she laughed hard. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT WITH A STRAIGHT FACE!"

I shrugged with a smile, it was the truth. I might as well say that everything about her is wonderful and intriguing, but that would make me sound like a simp.

"It's the truth, there's nothing to be ashamed about."

Agnes continued laughing, but after a few seconds it stopped and said. "So, I'm beautiful huh?"

"100% I don't think anyone would disagree."

"Anyone huh? A very bold claim, but…thank you, it made me happy as no one called me beautiful sincerely." Unexpectedly she leaned on my side and kissed my left cheek.

"That is my parting gift to you, my dear guinea pig." This time, her voice was warmer then she disappeared and so was I.

The mission was flawlessly completed and I was back in my world.

A/N: A lil bit of kiss at the end, but it's more of a friendship kiss than an affectionate one, like I said girls won't immediately start dropping their panties after a short interaction.
