Chapter 35 - No Longer Human

It's been a month since I started school with my childhood friend. In the same class. In the same school.

Oh god, you really answered the prayers I offered every week. I really did meet my future husband again and got closer to him.

However, two weeks ago, ever since he was assigned as the new library attendant with Emma Clark. He seemed closer to our class president than playing with me.

Hmph! I'm really jealous that I wasn't chosen as a library committee member. And I'm even more jealous that the two people chosen to watch the library are them! My class president and my future husband! Together! In the library!

They have a shift every Friday. But still, watching the library together in a large, quiet room where just few other students visit, makes me suspect they're doing something secretly.

What if they're having sex in the library? My future husband with the class president?! I don't want to accept it! I want my future husband to do that to me first before anyone else hmph!

Because of that, this week, this Friday, I intend to spy on them both. This is to ensure my future husband's future is not tainted by our class president who pretends to be innocent and shy when in fact she is a genuine pervert! I'm sure of it. Because she has bigger breasts and buttock than me!

"Where i need to put this book, class president?" Vincent asked Emma Clark, a girl with short, neck-length brown hair braided into two pigtails down to her ears. She wore her characteristic round glasses.

"Eh? Oh yes, that book is kept on the biology shelf. The first row on the top, second from the right."

Vincent nodded and placed the book he was holding on the shelf Emma mentioned.

Emma Clark is a sweet girl who studies diligently. She truly exemplifies the qualities of a responsible class president. Although her drawback is that she's shy.

But she is still an ideal class president. Ask her anything, and she will give the right answer like an internet search engine Google or AI.

For example, Emma was once asked by Gregor about the myth of UFOs on another continent, then Emma explained it in detail and provided evidence that UFOs are just a myth without opening her phone.

Or Aria once asked about a science formula taught in a college course, but Emma easily explained it and made it easy to understand even for someone like Vittoria, who is quite stubborn in learning academic subjects.

Or when Vincent asking her about history of Reiss family, Emma answer the question with details and give him the name and the time of Reiss family history without open any textbook.

"How do you know all that, class president? You really know everything, don't you?" Gregor asked, his mouth agape in amazement.

Emma just shook her head and smiled. "No. I only know what I know."

If she didn't have a shy nature, it would be certain that Emma would be the model student of the school this year.

That's what Vincent thought about his view of Emma.

They were both sitting at the library attendant's desk. Emma was reading a thick book. After putting away the stacked books from students returning borrowed books from the library, Vincent sat next to Emma.

"What are you reading, class president?" Vincent preferred to call Emma class president because he truly respected the class president beside him.

"Oh, this?" Emma showed the cover of the book she was reading. She was reading 'No Longer Human' by a Japanese person named Osamu Dazai. "Just a book about psychology."

Vincent nodded slightly. "What's the book about?"

Emma hesitated to answer. "I haven't read it completely, but this book seems to tell the story of a man who feels he is not human. He doesn't feel the same emotions as normal humans. He is afraid of things normal humans do. Because of that, he acts funny and strange like a clown to make people laugh and to make himself feel normal like others.

"He is the son of a wealthy family. His father is a famous politician. That's why, in his teenage years, he easily fell into drugs and women."

"Hmm, that man reminds me of someone." Vincent said, touching his chin. He was thinking about a girl. It was Perseus Reiss. She was a girl who couldn't feel emotions without drugs like aphrodisiac.

"Who?" Emma asked curiously, but Vincent shook his head, refusing to answer.

"What are you two talking about?" Aria appeared out of nowhere. Standing in front of the librarian's desk with a creepy smile.

"A-ah, hi. Aria.." Emma became scared seeing Aria's smile.

Vincent only answered softly with a sigh. "We're talking about Ms. Lilith's cat."

Emma and Aria looked at Vincent with questioning expressions. A cat?

"What are you doing here, Aria?" Vincent then continued to ask Aria, who was still wondering about the cat.

"Ahah. I just wanted to read a book in the library. I'm not stalking or spying on my future husband who's chatting intimately with the big-chested class president."

Vincent raised an eyebrow while Emma blushed, covering her chest with the book she was reading out of embarrassment.

"Hah.. I've never seen you read a book in the library, Aria. Aren't you lazy type girl?"

Aria crossed her arms over her chest, putting on an annoyed smile.

"No way! I aspire to be a smart idol! Reading books is easy for me."

"Oh, I see." Vincent just said flatly. He then stood up and took a book from the science shelf.

"Then read this. I know your science grades barely touch average. You should start studying now for the mid-term exam." Vincent handed the science textbook to Aria with a devilish smile. Or so Aria saw it.

With trembling hands, she accepted the textbook Vincent offered.

"Huwee... I.. I just want to read a novel.."

"No, you have to study now." Vincent shook his head. Not letting Aria go to pick up a novel.

With lazy steps, Aria nodded and sat at the librarian's desk next to Emma.

"Fufufu~ luckily the class president is here. Class president, please teach me this science book so my future husband will praise me for my science grades later." She winked.

Emma smiled stiffly, letting out a forced little laugh.

"Hahaha.. alright. Ask me anything. I like questions and giving answers."

Aria put on a very happy face and hugged Emma so tightly that their "mountains" collided violently. Emma's big soft "mountains" were even lifted by Aria's medium "mountains".

Emma's face turned red from Aria's sudden hug.

"Class president! Thank you! From now on, you are my dearest mentor!"

"E-eh?..."

Vincent just shook his head while taking a book with the same title as the one Emma was reading. Coincidentally, he found one copy left.

"No longer human anymore, huh? Maybe this book will remind me of something about that girl."

Vincent then sat next to Aria and Emma, who immediately became engrossed in discussing the contents of the science book.

"Hehehe, my plan to keep my future husband away from the class president succeeded!"

Aria grinned widely in silent triumph.
